TOPPING for mainlining.. Node confusion?!?!

Hi, This is my first time attempting mainlining... I have read that I have to top down to 3rd node but I'm confused as to why plants nodes are not at the same level (in a right angle) here is a picture of 1. Can someone tell me why? And where I should actually top as I can't even work out first my 3rd node is on this :s

If you mean why the nodes don't make a perfect 90 degree " T " on the main branch as it grows? If so as a wise man once said "that's just the fucking way she goes man" .. there are things that go into proper uniform growth formation like food, light, temp, stress, genetics ect...

You can force the plant to do as you will by tying branches to the pot or a trellises/ support system of some sort then those branches will grow out and up which I believe is what your trying to do but with chopping off not uniform growth

mainlining is intended for seedlings really. if that is a seedling and is already alternating nodes, it is not a good candidate. I believe you have a clone, i think there is a guide to trying it with a clone somewhere online. you can use that to try with this plant regardless of clone/seedling

Yes it's a clone. I have found several posts and blogs about mainlining clones but they ALL tend to have symmetrical branches :/

Because seeds grow symetrical and clones do not.

Grow from seed if you want to mainline

In order to mainline that clone you would need to chop it all the way down to the first two branches at the very bottom. They seem to be fairly even. But with your plant being as big as it is she might die. From my experience if you take your clones a lot earlier before they start the offset growth then you can mainline them just like seeds. If it was my plant I wouldn't mainline this one it just got a little to tall.
