Topping noob question

So i know there is a lot of info on topping, but I just have one issue needing clarification

One of my plants is starting it's 4th set of ragged edge leafs.

On top of the 1st set of leafs with 5 pedals (3rd set total), there is a new set of leaves forming, and there are 4 smaller growths, 2 on either side of each new leaf.

Do I need to cut ONLY the new leafs and keep the 4 new growths? This is my assumption, but the problem is that the 4 new growths next to the leafs seem to be growing so close together that it is almost impossible to clip only the leafs.

Should I just wait a bit for the growths to be more separated from the leafs? Or can I clip all that shit off above the node?

I guess another question worth asking would be, where exactly do the new tops come from?

This has some good info from a good grower.

Basically you pinch the top out and it makes more growing tips.

As far as I am concerned you can pinch tops out AS LONG as you can leave a good deal of foliage behind. Don't remove more than like 10-20% of foliage overall. Just nip the tips and you won't be removing even 5%. With the same result. Only reason to cut more hard is to take good cloning material in my opinion.

My pictures won't download for some reason, but i'll try to explain it better.

Basically there are 2 obvious leafs formed above the 2nd node, as well as 4 individual growths that look like they could eventually form into smaller leafs or something. The smaller growths are on either side of the new leafs.

Do I chop it all off? If not, what do I need to keep to promote the growth of two tops?

@Aim - So do the tops appear out of the remaining foliage?

In the very first picture of uncle bens thread, there is a topped plant with two new shoots on either side.

Are these shoots on the plant before topping and need to be avoided while cutting? Or do the tops come out regardless of how much growth you cut?

I don't know the answers to your questions
I'm on DAY 26 of Flower for 9 plants
and I have 24 cutting on DAY 27.

I will VEG 20 of those cuttings and I ALSO want to attempt some TOP/CROP/FIM/MAINLINING technique.

So I am most interested to follow your thread.

Nice one for starting it MUN

I like it.. Rolls off the tongue :)

I topped this one early because my other two are still small and trying to catch up. My first grow BTW and it is special kush #1 from Royal Seeds

I will update with photos on the recovery.

You could do a journal....
I've started one for the cuttings - explaining why it took 3 weeks for them to root.
It's a steep learning curve when you're doing your first few crops....
But an enjoyable experience.

Your taking the top off so the 4 growths underneath become main stems. If you chop off those as well you have nothing left... read uncle bens guide again

Hopefully my stem is strong enough to support the tops.. if not I may get some LST whether i like it or not :)

The stem under the cut will thicken up a good deal to support the new tops. The four tops (if you topped for 4 new tops) should thicken up nicely as well.

Not sure what you did wrong, but the pics you just posted look fine to me. Regardless of where you top it, as long as there are new growth buds int he crooks where the leaves connect to the stem, they will flush out and turn into branches. It's just a matter of how many you get, and how close the node spacing is.

Okay that makes sense, thanks for clearing it up.

I think initially I only plucked one of the leaves instead of the whole new top
