topping plant question

Im about to start my first grow monday and i have been reading up on "topping". Let me get this staight lol you top your plant so two top will grow instead of one. Correct?

now if you do this, will two tops produce the same amount of bud if you werent topping it? like, instead just having one HUGE main cola.

generally you will produce more from topping but it takes longer because the plant needs to veg longer to repair itself

the goal of topping is to get more colas therefore increasing bud amount, top once get two, top twice get four and so on yield will increase

FIM instead, you will get 4-6 growth shoots this way, not 2 like topping.


The process is nearly identical, just cutting through the growing node for FIM'ming not cutting off the growing node in topping.


In my experience fimming adds 1-2 weeks to the veg time, but vastly increases the yeild.

ahh gotcha! well that sounds good to me! xD i have a ak48 strain, i heard some plants dont react well to doing those types of things. what exactly does it do? i watched a video on it. the guy just cut through the top of the plant. what does this achieve?

Light efficiency is another reason to top indoors.

first plant was fimmed...next was topped...next was topped and fimmed several times...didn't mean to put bud pic in there...that's a bonus

Hey ,topping doesn't just create 2 tops ,it can create more usually for me.While the top 2 nodes form after the topping the other lower branches also shoot up to the top.Has to be in veg though i think...heres an example ,my c99 topped once at the 5th node in veg

The reason topping has this effect is because cannabis is an apical dominant plant ,(main stem and lesser branches further down) .This is controlled by a hormone.Once you snip the top off ,the hormone goes to all the nodes instead of just the main stalk.. hence you will get several more bigger stronger branches..
