Topping To Early?

if you top a plant early will it grow the 2 stems or will the one stem just regrow?

should be done at the 4th or 5th node....so iv been told

4th or 5th node of true leafs or pre-leafs?

A node is where the fan leaves meet the stem and where branches are attached.
A cotyledon (non true leaves) stores food for the seed until the true leaves and roots are produced.
A pre-flower (primordia) is when a plant is starting to show it's sex.
