For the RDWC growers out there I need your wisdom. When I'm topping up my resevoir mid week do I just use ph adjusted water or do I add water with nutrients?

It depends on how often you change out your system. I only change out my water once during an entire grow unless I run into issues. I top up every day or second day with water, and feed accordingly when required. Once you have found the sweet spot for your nute levels, you will want to try and keep them relatively close to the same level. I little bit of fluctuation is always a good thing though imo.

Thanks for the info Slanty. I have another question, I have read that I should change my system water and nutrients every week. I would love to do it one a grow because it would dave a lot of $

My nutes go 'flat' after 5-7 days. I can see growth slow or stop, at which point I replace it

I cheek pH & PPMs every other day. I first add water to bring PPMS back to where they were, then add same PPM nutes to refill

i have tried several different methods over the years and have settled on adding back ph''d water 2-3 times then changeout. once the ec has dropped approx 33% i change out the system. i feel like these frequent change outs help prevent root problems along with keeping the npk ratio intact.

That sounds good, so would it be better to go by the drop in ppm or just change weekly?
i go off the meter, it just happens to be a 7-10 day cycle in my system. i start my nutrient solution at a high enough ec where it takes 7-10 days for the plants to deplete the strength by 1/3. example: say im in week 4 of flower. i start my system at 1.5 ec. as the water level drops i add back ph'd water until i am at approx 1.0 ec. this usually takes 2 or 3 add backs over the course of 8-10 days.

Well, maybe you should check out LordJin's thread. He was an avid believer of the weekly res change-outs. This grow, he has finally taken advice and has only changed out his res once so far to date as far as I am aware of for this current grow. He has stated that this is the best his root structure has looked in the previous 3+ grows!

If you have things dialed in, weekly res changes are just a waste of your hard earned dollars. Once you learn to read your plants, you should be able to add back what is necessary to your system when required and save yourself a whole lot of hassles and denero. I have never and will never do a weekly res change no matter what is going on in my system! Talk about shock.
