Hows it going everybody.

On saturday morning i topped my white widow plant, today i looked at the plant and nothing has started to grow out from where i topped the plant. All there is, is a blackish brown area where i cut the plant. What could be wrong, will the plant take a very long time before it starts to grow or is it somehow possible that i cut too low and stopped any more growth from the top.

i apoligize for the picture but at the moment all i could use was my cell phone

It's my understanding when you top a plant no new growth will come from the part you cut/pinched off. By topping the plant it makes the next set of leaves grow as if they were the main stem. So insted of having one main stem you'll have two. So you won't see any new growth but that set of leaves there should grow bigger and faster.

I could be wrong as I've never topped a plant before, but this is the understanding I got from what I've read.

i appreciate your help, but its not quite the answer im looking for. I ve topped a few other plants, i think my problem is i cut too low when i topped the plant. So now my question is without any node on the top of the plant, did i just completly halt vertical growth on the plant. and if so is the only solution lst etc...

thanks

you have nothing to worry about. midgaar is basically right that the set of two growth tips that are just below where you topped will fill out and become two main colas.

didn;t see this post before i responded. so, you cut below the top node? if so, the node below will start to grow out but i think i would trim off the rest of the growth above that node so you'll have no waste of the plant's resources.

fuck ya man, you just made my day, i thought it couldnt get worse with everything bt that made it better haha.

so if i cut off the remaining stem that was topped unsuccefully to the previous node, that previus node will just grow like it was the top of the plant?

righto - you'll get two colas instead of one

This is correct. It doesn't have to be the very top of the plant cut off, you can top a plant 5 nodes down if you'd like. I don't see a valid reason for doing so but it can be done.

Your picture is fuzzy but it looks like you did a FIM top. FIM stands for "Fuck I missed" where you leave a little bit of the top in place. This causes several buds to sprout out according to the Growing bible book.

Like I said before I've never topped so its all theory to me. I've read the grow bible several time over though plus countless threads.

well when ive topped b4 ive cut right into the lowest part of the node. This time i thought it might be better if i cut right b4 the node starts. Which obviously didnt work that good.
