Topping?

Have 3 Clones that have been Topped but not ready for them yet even though they are big enough to flip.

I understood if you Top them more you lose production. My Son said Top them more, which I would be getting more Clones.

He says every where I Top will have a couple Big Colas?

Topping does halt upward momentum, BUT the pay off is multiple tops on a plant that you can bush-out. This is a bigger deal for indoor than outdoor plants, as outdoor the sun penetrates all the way thru the plant, indoor/artificial light usually just penetrates a foot or two beyond canopy level.

People top inside to make enough bud sites to fill in every square inch of your light footprint, to maximize yield. You don't need to top at all if yield isn't a big concern. Some people just grow more plants to fill in a canopy, rather than top/train. It's all up to you and your goals. If you like BIG FAT COLAS don't top, on the other hand, if you've had problems with botrytis before, you should top a lot, that way you end up with lots of smaller buds that are less likely to rot.

I top my outdoor plants multiple times. I dont want huge fat colas that the elements can fuck up. I'd much rather manageable size colas where if I do experience bud rot I don't lose a couple of ozs at once.

But hey that's just me.

Not to mention you're probably getting a better overall yield rather than growing huge Christmas trees. My point was mostly regarding light penetration indoor vs. outdoor

IDK, i LOVE topping my autos. Can't really see a "production" loss by being topped. As a matter of fact, people always say it will reduce yeilds, but have zero factual numbers on how much. It's just their "guess". I vote always top unless the plant description says dworf/lowrider/small/20-40cm. That's all small autos based on genetics and not growers. Anything other than that and i chop them. Goog luck on your grow.

I've been told not to Top Autos then with another company says to Top them.

Plus they have some strains of Autos that most are told to stay away from because of effects.

These Photos have already been Topped once and Topping again is really just to keep them shorter. Although I would like 5 more Clones for a grow.
