Topping?

this is my first grow and someone told me to look in to topping my plants.

what is topping?

what dose it do?

how do you do it?

Topping is basically cutting off the top of a plant to encourage it to make multiple tops.
Send us a picture of your plant.

Don't top your plants in flower, only in vegetative growth.
Top them at least two weeks before flower.

There are multiple guides online, but I would encourage you to practice FIM'ing.
All it does is manipulate auxins to the next highest budsight, after you cut off a certain branch tip.

Whichever branch tip is highest in the sky, the plant will focus on and make dominant.
 
Don't you need to top the plant at a certain point? I tried topping mine while it was still pretty young, maybe 3rd or 4th set of leaves, and it never split? Still only one main cola.

WW , 24 DAYS BEFORE TOPPING (2).jpg cut at the red line for 4 conas excluding the cotyledons count up three node sets and choppo it also dosent hurt to wait till the 4th and 5th nodes form due to better rooting

WW , 30 DAYS.jpg and if done right this is the vigurous growth youll get. this is 6 days later.

my plant is still young, its not quite ready to Top yet. i'm just researching so i can get it right the first time. i will post up a pic tho

do you want to top after the 3rd or 4th node? do you count the 2nd set a leafs as a node? (first set over the seedling leafs)

do you prefer FIMing over Topping? can you do both?

Hello, my plant looks very similar to that plant in the last attachment, and it looks like that plant in the pic was topped above the 3rd node. Uncle Ben says to top above first node for 2 colas, and above second node for 4 colas. I topped mine above the 4th node. What do you think will be the result of this? How many colas, and will this affect my yield negatively?
 
I've never had luck with fimming, and personally I would rather top.
I'm doing an all natural right now, but next grow I'm going to top the piss out of them.

When it comes to growing, there is no "you need to do this"
It's all about what you want to do, and the results you get out of it.
