Hi there, long time smoker, first time grower here. I've been thinking about growing my own for ages, and have decided to bite the bullet.
I've seen the Aerogarden (http://www.aerogarden.org.uk/aerogarden_concept.html) on TV, and had a read through the threads on it, it looks pretty good, and think it might be the way to go for me. I was hoping to get some advice from you guys on here though. I'm a student, so keeping costs down is imperative, and I was wondering if there was a more cash efficient method I could use. I have zero growing experience, so the Aerogarden appeals for ease of use, but I'm wondering if I can get the kind of yields I'd like off it.
Is it possible for around £100-150 to yield about 1.5oz a month average? So each harvest I'll be looking to get around 3.5-4oz, it's for personal use, I don't want to go mental with it. Is aerogarden suitable for this?
Another option I was looking at was getting an Ikon Oxy Pot (http://www.grotec.co.uk/search.php?search=oxy+pot&search_submit=Go) with a HPS light, I can get one with a 600w light+reflector for £95 online, about the same as an aerogarden, but the root capacity is over four times larger, and I'm sure the light is better. Is a MH light strictly necessary? Will it increase my yield hugely? I do need to keep costs low.
If I go this way I'll have to find a way to hang the lights (I'm planning on growing in a canvas wardrobe lined with tinfoil and possibly some sort of soundproofing if the oxy pot is loud) and get a timer and all that. Any reccomendations?
As for varieties, I was thinking of going for either AK-48 or some Lowryder 2 (Lowryder 2 if I get the aerogarden, to ensure the plant fits under the hood). Are these good for my purposes?
One other problem is nutes, I see that foxfarm are really heavily reccomended on here, is there a decent UK supplier anyone knows of, I've had a google, can't find one. If not, can someone reccomend an alternative that is available in the UK?
Sorry for all the questions, I've been reading a lot of this site, trying to get ideas, if I've asked anything too obvious and stupid, I apologise. Cheers for the help guys.
