Toxic Air Line?

Hi, does anyone have any experience or heard of offgasing or another form of poisoning from air line tubing?
Had a battle for the last year trying to figure out problems - including leaves going off colour - evenually turning really pale, very slow to zero growth, to ultimately death, or me ripping it out to try and start again.
I tried everything - looking on here for advice, finally I learnt about 'offgassing' and got rid of my old white PVC tent, and replaced with a shiny Mylar one. Anyway, not much change until recently I lent a buddy some airline and he was like "woah, mine have started going to shit too" so - we figured 'air line'. He ripped it out and everything eventually went back to normal.

so I ripped out the old airline (I got it off Ebay - but is had pictures of Koi on it - so wouldn't have thought toxic)
anyway, I had a little of old old airline - the non stretchy stuff - popped this on (not ideal as it was a bit short).
Within days I saw major improvent and new healthy growth from both ends.
So, I ordered some fresh airline from my LGS, had a chat with them about toxic air line - they had never heard of it - dodgy tents yes, not air line. I was a little concerned when the new line arrived - as it looked and felt very similar to the dodgy one I just threw out. It's stretchy silicone style

Anyway the stage I'm at now is - the new airline from the shop is on and I'm looking at her and trying to figure out is she going bad again or if the off coloured leaves are from the previous issue. I'm basically worried that this new air line might be bad also.

Anyone go any ideas?

Maybe I should just get another load of air line again - anyone know of any definitley safe stuff??
(in UK)

thanks for any advice!

Any airline that is white will be based in PVC. That will offgas.
I have never heard of your problem before either. It does make sense.

I've never heard of that....

The only thing I could suggest is always get your lines from a reputable pet store that carries fish tanks.

Dr. Who - it isn't white - clear silicone. A friend of a friend said he had a similar issue a few years ago.
