traffic tickets

I received two traffic tickets. Well, three. One for speeding and one for careless driving. the other ticket was failure to present documents (registration), but my girlfriend found the registration when the cop handed me the tickets and he refused to look at it. so I'm going to bring that up in court, but from my understanding I can only have that fine reduced.

Now, this happened in new jersey. I am a PA resident. will I still receive points on my license? and this happened while I was a minor, I recently turned 18. I'm also planning on consulting an attorney and having one present on my behalf in court AND I plan on taking a traffic course in hopes of reducing the points. (5 for speeding, 2 for careless driving). this is a fucking mess.

usually you can talk to the prosecutor, most of the time they will let you turn careless driving into unsafe driving, which carries no points just a bigger fine, the only drawback is if you get two or three unsafe driving tickets you can get your license suspended.

Act like a human being while talking to the prosecutor. The cop had already written the tickets befor you found the registration he cant just rip it up.

Assrabbi, you're an azzhole

yes if you get a ticket for no insurance paperwork, if you show up to court with insurance that was valid during the stop it usually gets thrown out

Yeah I called the court house and they told me that the fine could be thrown out but definitely reduced. I have an attorney too. I will just be myself in court and treat each person as a human being with courtesy and respect. maybe there can be some positive outcomes.

plead not guilty even though the judge, prosecutor, police officer, and court employees all know that I am guilty? I was planning on that but what if I annoy all of those people? I want to get out of this with my license, I will suggest a different form of punishment and everything. I think it will work because I need to drive for college and will bring that up in court.

yes just talk to the prosecutor, don't give them a reason, they want to avoid a trial and just want money out of you so they will make a deal

UPS has a good point. They always want to avoid a trial-always, and that's why they're always offering "plea bargains." (And those are a farce.)

If I were you, given your age, the fact that your insurance is going to go up drastically, I would not go into that courtroom without an attorney. Yes, it's going to cost you some money, but don't try to be your own attorney. This is not a garden variety moving violation. Your attorney might be able to use the fact that you did indeed produce the registration before the end of your encounter with the officer to your advantage.

As far as counting on cops not to show for court? That's highly unlikely. I had a pretty bad situation (DUI) and was told by my [idiot] attorney that since the trooper had been transferred to a different county, more than likely with enough postponements, he wouldn't show at least one time, and I'd be off. I found out that was nothing but bad information. If a cop can't make a court date, the courts will postpone things for you. And apparently your right to a "speedy" trial means nothing in traffic court.

And of course you should use your very best manners in court. They take that stuff very seriously.

Get an attorney, but make sure you ask around for referrals. I really screwed myself by using the wrong one. And yes, I got convicted.

Definatly get an lawyer... Did you get this ticket at the Garden State Parkway or turnpike. Because the state and parkway cops are trying to raise the number of tickets for there quota so they can get new cars (Mustang GT). Everybody in New Jersery thinks its fucking rediculas. But what every.. We love PA people who come down to the beach but New Yorkers can just stay home

Pleading not guilty in the hopes that the officer does not show up in court does not work where I live. Each officer has a scheduled time in court every month and all his cases are scheduled for that time.

Just do whatever your attorney tells you to do. He's the expert.
