Trail Cameras...Friend or Foe?

My bro was growing for personal last year in a corn field..went out to water his plants at night and got flashed by a trail cam. Luckily since it was dark he knew that he'd been picked up by it so took it back to his house and wiped his picture off the card and made a new route to his spot. My last guerilla grow was 7-8 years ago, back before these things were really available to the general public. Now I hardly know any serious hunters who aren't using them. It's not the flash that worries me for this years grow (Iranian G13, Iranian "Auto") because I'll be slipping out in the dark and a flash will ...it's the infrared cameras that don't emit a flash...especially the ones that transmit the image directly to email or text them to a phone. Check out this link (one guy had a grow one foot away from one of these cameras! lol) and post your thoughts on ways to defeat or counteract the threat of being spotted. Only thing I can think of is to get out early in the year and place a few of my own infrareds near my location, which would catch anyone coming in or out but provide no protection otherwise. http://www.supercircuits.com/resources/learn/surveillance-for-parks-and-recreation-areas/surveillance-for-parks-recreation-trail-cameras

i think if ur growing in an area where u found trail cams, its time to move that business else where. u want to be where no one else want to trek

Guerrilla grower since 1964. If you are even near people anymore you are too close. Trail cams, Google Earth Pro and geocaching have helped lead dumbasses everywhere anymore. There is no "safe" grow but some are safer than others. Plus, visit with binoculars if you do not have to personally deliver water or feeds. Beating a trail to your grow just invites other nosy suckers to see who went where and for what.

I use three of them, I like having peace of mind.Never seen a soul on them and enjoy seeing the wildlife.

The grow I'm working on this year is an hour from where they found these trail cams. All plots will be night time kayak access to near-stream woodlines facing south but just about anyone who is serious about hunting whitetail around these parts has a trail cam set up anymore, seems like. Places to avoid are near deer trails or any other hints of ATV activity. It isn't kayakers or fishermen who worry me in the least on this particular 3 mile stretch of creek but rather the hunters or someone who is just curious about the local wildlife. This is one of the least populated areas in the state and it's a chore to get there but still something worth keeping in the back of your mind at all times. Times are a-changing.

quick tip. cell phone cameras can be used as inferred detectors. pull your cell phone out and turn on the camera app. look through it at a known inferred camera and it will glow really bright like someone was shinning a flashlight at you.

Ive used them in my last 2 grows just to keep a eye on things seen a few humans that were way off my trail but it was just to see where was the trash in the area was coming from....i thought that i was about to be ripped....so i counter acted to use this for evidence just in case i was ripped i was going to turn that ass in to the people.....it would have been carma not snitching

i have a bro that i grew up with he makes me crack up he grows on his grandfathers farm he is so paranoid he bought an ape suite and wears that out when he goes to see his crops whole body suite with head i told him i wouldent worry about being seen at the crops id worry about getting shot he deff a trip he says f--k em they ant getting him on cam.

i say this if your that paranoid go out at night wear ski mask
My wife said to buy a deer suit and wear that out...not shitting. Hahaha. Good way to get shot just for fun. But seriously, I think wearing a ski mask is probably asking for more trouble than anything. My alibi is that I'm out running trot lines by kayak. I don't have a problem with someone's trail cam picking me up doing that. But once you get your picture taken with a ski mask out in the woods, someone KNOWS something is up, and the cover is blown. That's asking for trouble. I think the odds of winding up on a trail cam doing anything grow related is pretty slim but still gonna take every precaution! I like the cell phone idea best, or getting night vision, which in my case, is probably the best bet. A $300 investment to cover my ass and all the hard work and countless hours of planning should go a long way.

A buddy got pics of a lady dropping her pants and pissing into his bear bait. She was obviously an anti hunter trying to scare the bears off the bait. It backfired on her cause the bears went nuts... They loved it. Maybe she was menstrating.

lol the you had a crappy cam! any decent trail cam is designed to be smart enough not to take pics of the wind blowing shit around.
