Training options advice.

Hi.

First grow.

Looking for recommendations on defoliation or LST HST or whatever.

I already topped 1x and tried to bend lower branch up. 1000001226.jpg1000001213.jpg1000001212.jpg1000001229.jpg

It looks like I need to defoliate though. Not sure how much to get rid of without too much stress

Any recommendations are welcome.
2x2x4 tent c so trying to keep small but maybe it's too bushy and i should move light up?

Hey buddy, they are some nice healthy looking plants. Too young to be defoliating tho, let ‘em be.
If it’s your first grow don’t go too crazy with training everything.. maybe try a few things on one plant, and compare how it goes to the one you leave to its own devices.. learn some pros and cons.

I haven't tried it but I will. Somebody on here was 12/12 lighting seedlings and kind of massing smaller plants like you have.
Seems like a good way to try. Your plant looks about perfect for that right now. Just 4 big colas.

Thanks! they look pretty good now....but this photo was after a flush 3 days prior bc of too much nitrogen. I added fox farm nutrients too soon with ocean forest.
Flush helped a lot obv.

The other plant is a bagseed and must be auto since it flowered after like 21 days or so.

You wrote too young to defoliate. When is ideal? I thought for sure it was OK at this size.. 4.5 week old in photo.

Oh and I was thinking 4 colas with all the space I have is a waste, no?
I think I really do want to try to do something to get my feet wet with that.. although the other viewpoint of letting first grow just be and focus ongetting t to harvest.

My thought is that humid spots might develop bc of leaves touching and overall bushyness. Plus there are a couple of leaves close to the soil bc I added more to compensate for loss during prev watering. I figured that's not ideal

Quick other question...I have a spare 4" vivisun duct fan and piping. My tent right now has 6" duct fan with aero 200se and 2 passive intakes- one rectangleand one 4" both at bottom of tent. 2 -6" circulation fans

Would it be beneficial to use the spare 4" fan on lower setting with intake (and maybe close the rectangle one?) or just leave passive fresh air with the 2 opening I have.

Also, is it better to have humidifier inside of tent? I have the a c infinity with the long hose. It's reaching up and into tent from 4" opening on the side but high up and then down to floor into pot. Not sure if it's better to try and fit it into tent and get rid of hose. If I can even fit it in.

Plants look healthy, so you’re in a good spot. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Tie down to your grommets to spread new growth and that’s about all you need to do for lst.

Agree with the others here that it’s not really necessary to defoliate at this juncture. Yes, leaf in soil is no bueno and you should trim those. Otherwise, just let ‘em be. Gettin’ to the finish line is what matters. You’re doing great.

On the 4 cola thing. I just meant that instead of one monster plant. Some guys grow many small ones at once.
It’s your choice on that. I was just mentioning that your plant is looking about right at the moment for that method.

It's too young to defoliate imo however keep topping and tying down if you want cos you can always tidy it up some later on if you wanna

Thanks for all the comments.
I'll just let her be I guess and maybe reevaluate in a couple of weeks.
I do like the multiple small plants idea and quick flowering. I'm sure if I succeed in this grow that will be a future endeavor.

UPDATE: the bagseed started flowering Aug 31st. and is in its 5th week.. with the one I posted about I've continued with a little lst and she's doing good although there's a few not so happy lower leaves and I few blades on top part growth are like torn... but not enough to believe it's a bug.. maybe a a bit of nitrogen toxicity too..

Is that floating screen the same as a scrog? Or how is it different? Can you remove it

Nice plants!!!

Yeah, it's a scrog. A scrog without a frame. Simple wire the plant grows into with a little help. Just floats on there till the end. Pretty easy way to spread a plant and keep the canopy wide n low. These all sport a floater.

Benefit I'm finding with the floaters is mobility. These plants aren't locked in under a framed screen. So if your growing multiple strains there's no waiting. Ya pull the plant and leave the others to finish.

Any chance you have more photos like maybe from lower level.. looking up maybe
Id like to see how it looks near the frame and walls. Like how it connects. I've read that it's not fun removing buds from screen. Not sure I recall why though...

I like the idea of sog and scrog also.

Oh and BTW that photo is awesome!!
What size tent?

I only have a 2x2 but I just put regular plastic coat hangers on each corner and wow it really helped a lot. Gives you decent amount more space...

I'm finding it hard to keep vpd at the right number.. it gets to 1.5 1.6 even a few times... I wish there was a small portable air conditioner that has a small hose that can go through the tent hole and it has a temp sensor that can go in the tent....

Why hasn't that been done? Or has it??

The hose is doable diy but temp sensor would be a problem... id have to take it apart and write an external sensor... man i wish I knew how to do that kind of electrical... I

Well, like I mentioned there is no frame with the floater scrog. I'm just about to the end of my first run using floaters and I'm happy with them and will continue using them.
Each plant in this 4x8 has its own dedicated screen cut to size. IMG_20240828_201329771_HDR~2.jpg
They can be removed or moved around the tent as needed. They are not locked in under a frame.

I use common light weight garden fence wire and cut it to size

Under growth is slowly removed throughout the grow to help with airflow. image.jpg
I've got a few threads going with what I've got going on. If this stuff interests you come on over n check it out.

Floater screens are something new to me but scrogging is not. I'm about to complete some plants using it from mid veg to the end. I've grown many scrogs but this easy method seems to be easier. No worries about when do I flip to flower. Ya throw on the floater and go. The plant will frame in the wire on its own and for its own little mobile scrog.

It's my opinion but I've also got data to back it up. Screens increase your yield. Just by merely setting up the plants to absorb all the light where it counts is the ticket. I recently harvested a big C99 that was screen trained and it pulled in 12oz. By far the most I've yeilded from a grow since returning to growing.
