Transplant question

Hi all, thanks for the help. Seems I only come here when I have a problem. Last year's crop died, so I'm trying again. I have 2 plants, still in about 6-8 in. pots that are about 30 in. tall growing inside under flourescents. It's time to transplant, but as a tomato grower, I'm wondering if I can transplant my plants like I do tomatoes, where you bury the stalk all the way to the leaves and new roots grow from the stalk in the submerged soil. I leave my lights on 24/7, which is making them grow tall, but I'm also not getting much "bush". Any suggestions? Can I reduce the light cycle without making it bud? These are the last of my supposedly "amsterdam" seeds and I really want to make it work this time. Should I go ahead and go to my largest pot (3-5 gallon) or gradually move up in pot size to keep the root ball tight? Thanks so much for the help!! I love y'all! :peace:

you can bury your plant up to the first leaves,,,If they are getting tall you can drop your floros to within 1 1/2 inches or less,, drop the light to right above the tops,, very close,,, now,, if you want bushier,, than you can cut the top off or put more light around the bottom of them, or you can use LST method listed in the growfaq at the top of this page as a lot of people here swear by this method cause you can get a much bigger yield....:peace:...........

Wow 30 in tall already, remember that the plant will triple it's size a few weeks into bloom.
Yes you transplant just like tomato plants, if you bury the stem it will develop more roots on the stem...
Since your plants are going to be so big, I would use a 14" pot for them.
You can reduce the light cycle to 18/6, its much better for the plants health and root development. It can help alittle with making the plant bushy, but that's mostly because of the light it's under. And remember that some strains aren't bushy at all and grow like branchs.

And how did your last crop die?

I went to Thailand and didn't know my new neighbors smoked yet... Had about 6 lovelies that had to be sacrificed because while I do live in the woods, I do have neighbors and an occasional pass by from the sheriff on election years. Now I know both my neighbors smoke and would have been happy to help! DOH!!

I am so happy I can plant those deep. I'm also growing my flowers and veggies by seed this year (really getting into this gardening thing!) and running out of room! Should I also cut off the top third or so after transplanting, like I do with other plants?

Y'all are the greatest!

pix would help,, but whatever you cut off, try to clone if female, no need to waste good fems..... Better safe than sorry when it comes to anyone knowing that you grow...............:peace:..................................................

OK, great idea! I'll have to read the cloning section before I start then. I'm thinking just putting some stems in water until they grow a few roots, but I better check first. Also, I'll run out and take some pics real quick before I start. Back in a flash :)

when you are replying, scroll down further to the red letters that say 'attach files'. Click on the 'manage attachments' box, a new window opens. From here click on 'browse' amd up/load from your computer. When you have u/loaded four pics, click on the 'upload' box to the right of where it said 'browse' This actually uploads your pics. when you are done you may add more the same way, or, scroll to bottom of box, click on 'close window' go back to your reply. That's it.

I've spent the last hour uploading to ImageShack to get a url. Should have rechecked the forum for an easier upload :) Thanks!

Yes, My plants are that close as well. I just moved the light up yesterday because they were smashing into the lamps.

My plants are about 3 months old and were in a closet until I moved them to the new set-up I made for my veggies and flower seeding. Looks like I need to add more bottom light. My plants are scrawnier than yours. Also, transplanting will definitely help.

if you are growing under flouros then you do NOT use a bottom light. the only part of the plant you put light on is the top or are the tops, (after 'topping' them). do not waste time and money by using any sort of bottom light. although outside plants get light all the way down their stems, with indoor flouros with weed it's only the tops that matter. eventually the lower leaves will dry up and drop off, or you can trim them as I do, my plants look scrawny, cause I constantly trim the bigger fan leaves, to force more good juices into the tops and smaller nodes where it matters.
