Transplanting Question

Alright, going to get my gnewb on here... I'm wanting to go into 15gal fabric pots, ultimately, but I want to minimize the number of times I need to transplant. From a couple accounts I've gotten from friends using fabric pots, it can be a real pain (said they heard roots ripping) trying to get everything in one shot. So, my thinking goes like this: starter pot -> 3g cheap fabric pot (preferrably a DIY one that I make, that I can just cut off) -> 15g smartpot, 1.5-2wk before flower...

Am I in the right ballpark or should I do that last transplant a a little sooner to give more time to recover before switching?

Once you know they're gals, plant 'em in their final pots and fuggedaboutit Gives them some time to get some big ass roots (and size) going during veg And they can grow fukin' huge in 15 gal pots (a good problem to have)

So, if I were to be using clones, just throw em right in after they take root? That's what was suggested by my friend who heard the ripping... Yeah, I plan on scrog'n the shit out of it and maximize my yield with only 6 in flower. It will be largely strain dependent, but I am shooting for 12oz-1lb per plant (a buddy says he tops out at 15oz in 10gal, so I think it's a realistic goal). Need big pots to get there!

12 x 5 is the plan, 400W EFDL (x3, 4x4 footprint), and a rail (x2 on a mover, going 2ft each way from center) of 200W COB CXA 3070's @ 3000K (spaced 1ft apart, to cover 4ft in length) on each side to extend that footprint to a 5x4. Once I get the lights built, I'll be measuring to make sure I have enough coverage. Worst case scenario, I stick to 10's. The person helping me with my soil recipe is running 15gal under similar conditions (space wise), but every room is different, so I'll just need to get it put together and see what the actuality is behind all my theoretical work.

You can buy fabric pots made to be able to be transplanted easily. They have a Velcro seem that runs the full height of the pot. Simply open them up and plant in new pot. I haven't used them myself but I have a friend that does and loves them.
