This is my second go around with a dwc bubbleponics system. I decided to build a typical 6 spot system with stuff that was laying around from the previous bubble cloner that I had made awhile back. My system is working great but I have 2 issues that need to be fixed ASAP. First off the bag of clay pebbles that I had planned on using as a medium ended up being infested with ants and spiders from leaving it in the shed. Frustrated andn having a "can do attitude" instead of ordering more clay, I thought I might experiment with my own mix of 60% perlite 20% vermiculite and 20% top soil. The seedlings were ready to be transplanted; I'm guessing out of haste, I had a brain fart and completely forgot about the inherent contradiction of having soil in a system like this. The second issue goes along with the first, I took regular plastic 3.5 in planters and drilled holes from top to bottom to use as my containers(the holes are not big enough to allowthe perlite to drain out). Despite all planning, I still got ahead of myself and impatient...and doing something dumb like that^^^. They are about 6 weeks old and are getting root bound+ root rot due to the above. Now that I'm wanting to save them...what would you recommend be done? Should I get the net pots and clay and transplant them? Please help! Thank you

I just built a very similar setup to yours. Just spend the couple bucks and do it right with some clay and net pots. You should be able to save them, just wash the current medium off the roots and you should be fine.

IMO, you should transplant into bigger soil/perlite pots and handwatering, and they should recover fairly quickly. once you have introduced soil into DWC the organics will cause slime. better to switch over to soil now and try your next run at hydro again.

In all honesty those were the two conclusions that I have come up with.

I was going to use soil as a last resort, knowing that they will have a much easier transition. I'm still up in the air though. I'll let you guys know what I decide. Thanks a ton

i tried one from soil to DWC, huge failure. If you do try it, spend the time to flush everything off the roots no matter how long it takes and clean them off with something strong after. maybe a hydroguard or H2o2 bath at a concentration that wont kill them. IMO soil/perlite up-pot is the better option.

So I decided to do both. I am going to move 4 of them into net pots and clay. And the others into a higher soil/perlite ratio.

What rate of h2o2 would you recommend safe for rinsing the roots?
