a gnats life cycle is 3 days.
i use a mixture of spinosad, on top of doing 3 azamax drenches. after the plants have been inoculated with a spinosad drench, i wait until the soil drys and I drench with azamax every 3 days for a total of 3 neem drenchs in a 9 day span.
first neem drench kills living larvae and hopefully the flying gnats, the second drench kills the leftover eggs that hatch and were leftover from the previously killed gnats, the third drench basically makes sure all leftover larvae and eggs dont get second chance at re populating. it only takes a couple leftover gnats to become a problem again.
I dont think 100 percent erradication is possible but I try to put a big dent in the gnat lifecycle, I also use the yellow stickys to monitor the current gnat situation. if its real bad I add a 1'' layer of clean masonry sand from homedepot to the dirt surface, but sand is annoying to flatten out after waterings.
