Trich question

I have 4 different plants, two almost straight indica, one mix, and one almost completely sativa.

All the hairs are white except the indicas have about 20% amber hairs, mix has about 5-10%, and the sativa has like all white hairs..

The trich question is, I use a microscope to determine color and from my inspection about 15 minutes ago, the two indicas appear about 25% amber, 60% cloudy, and 15% clear...

This is only my 3rd grow, and it's been a year since my last one so I need to brush up...

Are my trichs coinciding with the current hair change?

I don't want to miss my window of oppertunity, thy're all on week 6 right now, and these indicas look like they're going to be ready in a week, MAYBE two if I want it couch locked.

My mix has about 35% clear 60% cloudy and 5% amber, and the pure sativa has about 45% clear 55% cloudy with no amber.

So the biggest question is, when I get to the day after christmas, all the trichs look ripe, and yet theres still like 30-40% white hairs, should I wait? Or trust the trichs.

I've been told both and not the other, so a straight answer would be nice, even just more opinions.

3 of the plants are over 2 months veg, and one is over 1 month veg under 400w HPS and a couple CFLs for the low parts of the plants.

Anything appreciated :)

Dont judge it by the hairs unless you know the strain well enough that you know what colour the hairs are for peak harvest, and how the buds should look when its nearly time to harvest. For example AK47 is harvested while still having white hairsin the 49-63 day range. They all differ from strain to strain has how the pistles change colour and harvest times. Trust the trich's, they wont lie to you.

Above is great advice, a lot can effect the hair color, like temp. Go off the trichs and it sounds like you can chop now or wait a week or so. Good luck, late.

Thanks guys, I'll def wait a week and keep flushing them with molasses and water, atleast on the ones I plan on chopping. I just want them to swell as much as they're supposed to, but thats a hard judgement since they're all bag weed, except one which was one seed in a HP of NL he had, that one is the mix, and is about a week behind the indicas

oh really???

...this is from a previous post of mine hope it helps. . . also as an edit while reading i also believe that the clear fully produced trichs are an great up/clear/long stone. the reason i say this is because i have three in the mix that i've clipped and tried and the stone is more of a clear high then a down stone. . . also i've noticed a harder down time but it might be because of a short curing process . . .as a side note.

Not my words. . . .

This is what's said in the FAQ:

"When growing Indica hybrids, unless you want to end up on the couch, it’s best to harvest when the trichome heads are fully formed but before they start to cloud over and turn amber."

"With the Sativa dominant hybrids you want to make sure that all the trichome heads are fully formed and also about thirty percent amber. Letting a plant mature beyond this will risk flavor as well as, the finished smoke may be harsh with very little “high”. "
"1.Fully formed but still clear will provide a cleaner ‘up’ high with less sedative effect; this is the best window for heavy Indicas.
2.Fully formed and turning slightly cloudy or milky; this is probably the best time to pick most hybrids available today.
3.Fully formed completely cloudy or milky with at least thirty percent of the heads turning amber; this is usually best window for the late maturing Sativa’s such as Haze. This is also a good window when using the plant primarily for Hash production.

MY WORDS. . . . .

i researched for months and i harvest at cloudy trichs no clear ones. if you have more than 20% clear wait, your plant is still producing.

. . .also herb colas grows in "final" stages, "bud" as we like to call it, is a fruiting flower and not all flowers finish at the same time. so clip your plant as you see fit. unless you grow in large quantities.

. . . .anywho, there is much debate on the amber trichromes. i do not go amber, i only go 95%+ cloudy and the rest are amber. the reason being is that the amber is the degradation of thc to cbd or cdb i always get confused, then your stone goes from an up high to a down high. i have researched and there has been a significant amount of evidence supporting a claim of a longer and clearer stone if you harvest at cloudy trichs. i belive this. we all experience the "come down". you wake and bake and later on in the day you want to take a nap. To test this you have to smoke your plants throughout your grow. for me cloudy stones make me less tired later and the stone last longer. amber stones are shorter and the come down is sleepy. that's fine for before bed.

. . .now depending on what you want then there is your harvest time. . .but there are oodles of herb strains that all boast a different feeling. the best way to start is grow one and smoke that one at all it's different stages in trich production and become your own judge.

. . .no one can tell you how your own stone feels therefore you are your only audience.

Just as they said go by the trichromes and not the hairs.I had some i cut that the trichromes were ready but hairs were white mostly but after a day or two of drying the hairs turned to the prettiest orange you had ever seen.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll wait up to another week on one of the plants, about 50% of the airs are orange. Theres a bunch of white trichs with amber ones, but theres also a bunch that are still forming it seems, they're just little pools of clear, almost amberish color on the leaf.

I flushed all but the sativa plant and a lot of the fan leaves are turning light green/yellow on the most mature plant, and the others are right behind it with slightly less yellowing than the one most mature plant.

I'll see how she looks after christmas and likely to harvest one of the 4.

Thanks again.
