Trichomes

Week 7, day 1. What stage are my trichomes at? Flowering cycle is 8-10 weeks but I’ve seen growers chop at 12 weeks. It’s a 60/40 indica/sativa hybrid and I’ve noticed more sativa characteristics during flowering so I was prepared for the 12 weeks, never again though. Is this clear or cloudy trichomes? They look more cloudy and it’s no where near ready for harvest. I would assume not to look at trichomes until your harvest window is approaching but I was just curious. I wanted to flush when my trichomes just started to get cloudy so I can harvest when a some amber sets in. First grow, so I’m not entirely sure

Pic #2 Without opening it shows the plant is nowhere near ready, wait until new pistils have stopped growing and the brown ones have receded into the calyxes.

This is when you'd want to start looking for colour, ime trichs don't colour before the basic signs of maturity are clearly visible.
So will all this happen while keeping a good amber to cloudy ratio? I get what you are saying, some of my pistils haven’t even turned colors, my little buds are small to me but hey first grow, I’m proud of myself. Im anxious to smoke it but I know not to cut it down like right away, I was thinking another 2-3 weeks maybe. If you have a better opinion then I’ll consider what you say.

To coin a phrase, you're putting the cart before the horse!
The typical signs of maturity will show before trichs start to colour up.

Very early. No clumping up yet.

When clumped up you can hardly see green and brown
That’s another thing I noticed, aren’t they supposed to be erect? Like standing straight up? I can’t really see your picture but I think I understand what you mean. Mine are like little specs but some are poking out. What are you all looking at to tell maturity? I don’t have clear trichomes, they are all cloudy/milky so I thought that was peak thc, next is amber in the upcoming weeks right? Some are saying not yet, but they wont stay cloudy forever right? If it matters, my first day of flower was when I flipped to 12/12.

The trichs I see are sparkling that tell me that they're clear enough to sparkle, if you look at ripe plants you'll see they're sorta matt looking no sheen from the trichs.

I actually was looking at the second pic I posted and I actually see some clear trichomes. I don’t know how I didn’t see that at first, they are hard af to see lol even with the jewelers loupe. The first couple amber trichomes I see, I’m flushing. Or should I still wait?

They are hard to see. I have 5 magnifiers, none are easy to use but amber pops.

I'm not a fan of amber trichs I prefer to harvest earlier, over that I don't think trichs are a good way to judge harvest time, looking at the plant tells you more with a bit experience, hold on in there you'll pick it up in time.

I'm not a fan of flushing but I do give 3/4 days of water after I consider them ready to harvest.

I am using a chart like these for my first harvest soon

Week 8, day 1. Exactly a week from last post, is this a good time to flush? I can see clear and cloudy

No need to flush unless your medium ph is out of whack. Flushing to “clean out the buds” is nonsense and a waste of time and water.
Your initial pic looked like they still had a decent amount of swelling to do…...how is the water intake? When the plant starts drinking noticeably less water, you’re on the stretch run. I’d give water only for next week or two and you’ll likely be a decent harvest window.
Trich makeup is very strain specific. Some will not produce amber trichs easily and you’ll overcook the plant waiting.

I’m not waiting on amber trichomes anymore, the farthest I’ll go is cloudy only because I want to harvest and get it over with. I didn’t know the flowering time for this one would be so long, this is banana jealousy. I’ve seen some growers go as far as 12 weeks. It drinks the whole pot every 4-6 days. I checked a couple lower sites, I think I’m seeing cloudy. The second picture is a lower bud. I’m being patient but at the same time I don’t know what it’s doing. The top colas been like that for a couple weeks. Only thing changed was the pistils changed colors and it’s looking a little more ripe. What stage do you think it’s in? Mid or late flower?

Its almost there. Maybe 7-10 more days.

I’m going to flush today and let it eat off the reserves for that exact amount of time. I’ll flush one harvest and don’t the next to see if I notice any difference. For the top buds, if my light was too close, could that have stunted their growth? I never had bleaching on the tops but the leaves starting showing signs of light burn around the end of week 7. I have a bud right next to it that was trained lower but it’s bigger in size compared to the tops

Never flush your plants. Feed them until the last day. Until the day you harvest. All you are doing by flushing your plants is starving them of nutrients when they need it the most.

What about the bad taste? I’m trying to nail my first grow, I don’t want to waste 3 months of growing for bad tasting buds. I listened to videos with bugbee and he says it doesn’t have any major effect whether you flush or not
