Can I ask how people are able to call bhut jolokias tasty? I've eaten two or three of them and I wasn't able to function for a half hour each time. Bhut Jolokias are 3-0 with 3 KOs in our matchups. Yet I really want to be one of those guys who says what great flavor peppers have. How do I get there? Just eat them every day and build up a tolerance? Pretend I know what I'm talking about like wine snobs do?

Useually I can get a nice fruity taste right before the heat kicks in. Then all flavor is out the window. Last time I ate one I puked. Terrible experience, never eat extremely hot peppers raw on an empty stomach. Last summer I made most of my peppers into hotsauces. Just made some buffalo wings with some of the sauces I made on Super Bowl Sunday!

I have, and I cannot reccomend this. The casual pepper eater gets destroyed if you try something in a bhuts range. You literally build a tollerance to the capsaicin and the more you eat, the easier it is to handle the heat.

In my limited experience with peppers (standard peppers) they are more temperature dependent than light cycle.

yeah you buildup a tolerance to it.When i make a curry i would stick a whole pack of 20 finger chilles in there.Use to get a good kick out of it but not anymore ,so i'm looking forward to feeling the burn once again..

it's taken me a while to build up a tolerance dude, best to start off with a little bit and just have it regularly. As your tolerance builds up start using hotter chillis. I have chilli almost every day and habaneros are about the weakest chillis i use. The trinidad scorpions and bhuts still nail me sometimes if i add too much though.

ok heres an update ,it's roots were starting to grow like mad out of the pot so i transplanted into a bigger pot today.I also topped it the other day .Bit of an experiment ,i seen a few youtube videos advocating it ,so i'm sure it'll be ok..but it hasn't made any new growth since i did it 2 days ago ,but i would say it might take a week or two to recover.

Growing like a champ man, nice. In my experience a 3-4 gallon container does a fine job as a final pot size. And I got my Carolina Reaper seeds ordered last night.

Last year a buddy gave me ten ghost chilli seeds he had ordered off of ebay. Not a single one popped. This year i will be trying again but with heirloom seeds ordered from baker creek seed company. Hopefully ill have better luxk this year.

Dont feel bad. I consider myself pretty damn good at germing seeds. But still only have a 50% success rate with pepper seeds. There is definitely a knack too it.

Thing to remember about all the capsaicin family is they originate from very warm areas and require long sustained warmth to germinate. Tropical areas are the best for growing these types but they can be grown in lower latitude areas they just need sustained warmth to germ and keep them growing at a good rate. Even mine which i started almost 6 months ago are still under a foot tall and im not sure they will produce fruit now as it will start to get cold soon!

Yeah ive got plenty of hot peppers that were all started by seed. Just seems the ghosts just didnt seem to wanna germinate. Could be that since they were ordered on ebay maybe the source wasnt so reliable. Ive been ordering all my veggie seeds from baker creek for years bit this is the first season theyve carried the ghost chillis.
