Trolmaster

Im pricing out a trolmaster controller of course I wish I could get the pro but due to funds the hydro x will have to suffice. It's looking like around $900 to control 4 phantom de 1000w lights, mini split, dehumidifier, co2 generator, and space heater. I would love to hear your thoughts on this product before I pull the trigger. I'm not too worried about the technical aspects of setting it up as that is all part of the fun for me.

I've been shopping these as well I spoke to their engineering department. The ya re very helpful. And give you hand selecting different devices for your needs. Definitely gonna go with them. For the phantom de you could get the 4RS-1 splitter and run that off 1 device control box. The HSC 1 Controller. The CO2 device station and 3in 1 temp/humidity/CO2 sensor. The mini split controller device and a temperature device. Seems doable within your budget.

I saw a grower on Youtube (Greengene) that had a serious issue with a sensor using the Trolmaster gear. It ended up causing stunted growth and he didn't pick up on it until it was too late. I think it was a temperature sensor that was reading way too high (false positive) and it dimmed or killed the lights automatically for hours at a time. He didn't realize until weeks later.

I thought about trying to automate all the things but sometimes faulty gear can cause more problems than it's worth. If you're going to go that route, make sure you have backup systems and a data logger with alarms that can tell you when things are not correct.

Thanks for the tip. Trolmaster has all data logged in the cloud and has an app for smartphones which will send a push notification when things go wrong but I haven't had a chance to get into all that yet. I honestly can't imagine a problem that I didn't catch for weeks. Even my regular thermometer/hygrometer stores enough data to tell me about a problem like that and I check it daily. It's always good to learn from other's though.

Pretty much the route I took...I'm very excited to get it all up and running.

As far as I can tell, it was an intermittent thing and this is why he didn't catch it until it was too late. Had to cut down everything after 6 weeks in flower.

Have you set up your trolmaster system yet? I’m interested in the system and would love to see how you’ve installed it and how it operates.
hey just following up on how your set up went.
I also ended up ordered a hydro x system. But will be a while before I can set it all up (Christmas time). But I will test it out with my DIY LED lights. What gave me confidence go with Trolmaster was talking to their engineering/tech department. Super helpful.

Thanks! I have not done a deep dive on their system yet. I’m filling out my license application this weekend. I’ll give their tech line a call next week and let them give me their sales pitch. I think that would really help me understand the capabilities of the system. Happy Thanksgiving!

I recently bought a hydro x and the ars-1 for mini split control. Set up is Super easy and runs great. I plan on adding co2 next run. It should simple with the hydro x. I'd recommend it. Bought mine on ebay for $220 shipped, brand new.

How'd your setup go after?
Excellent actually I love the trolmaster controller! The fact that I can get notifications when things go wrong is amazing. I got a notification while I was at work one night that my temps were spiking and I called my husband right away who was at home. I guess my mini split had turned itself off (some sort of timer on the remote that was in the grow room that day) he was able to turn it back on and without that notification temps would have been around 100 for another 8 hours. Another time one of my circuits blew after I added a fan and the co2 generator shut off but I was able to fix it immediately. Wasn't planning on checking that room for another 12 hours. I'm switching to autopots for my next run and I will be adding a monitor for floor spills to notify me if any of the buckets overflow which I read can happen from a stuck valve. I heard horror stories of an entire res emptying onto the floor of the grow room so it is great to have a failsafe for that! I highly recommend the trolmaster it has literally already paid for itself in my opinion!

One of the saving graces, or reasons I like/got it is the notifications. Being notified, if you're not someone who is or can be around the garden almost all the time, is almost a must have feature.
