Tropical growing?

Hey i have some questions. I live in a tropical climate(5 degrees above equator) Can marijuana grow in a climate like this? Daily temperature averages around 28 degrees all year round and we get some pretty heavy rainfall 2500mm a year on average. 12/12 light

Maybe if i were to choose a sativa dominant hybrid or even a pure sativa strain. What do you guys think?, Would that work? Because i am planning to grow outdoors and this, If everything were to work out, would be my first grow  So any help wold be really appreciated, links, prior experience in growing in a climate like this, anything really would be appreciated.

Cheers :blsmoke:

28 degrees is perfect for plants, whats the humidity? also are u just planting in the ground or digging a hole with soil?, what nutrients/additives; also what strains you thinking
i think its definately possible depending on the strain though
some strains dont like humidity or higher temps
also rain is a problem if theres to much rain they might die so on the side of a hill or top would be optimal; as the rain would settle into the soil leaving room for roots to air a bit
dont put anywhere where it will flood or has flooded in the past
if your using soil what you could do is just put a pot outdoors; that would work just fine and you wouldnt have to worry about rain flooding them

hey humidity where i am(more inland) averages around 60-70% but can shoot all the way up to 85%. I live in a valley so i am planning to plant on top of one of the hills surrounding my area in a pot with my own soil.
I was thinking of http://www.nirvanashop.com/us/full-moon-10-seeds.html pure sativa or http://www.nirvanashop.com/us/outdoor-marijuana-seeds/kaya-gold-feminized.html sativa hybrid.
As far as nutrients/fertilisers go i have not given much though thought to that yet. We dont have any specialist grow shops here. But i will be using some pretty fertile soil. chicken manure+ordinary soil(people here slash and burn the forest and the ash fertilises the soil that they then dig up to sell, quite fertile)+compost. Will that be ok or will i need individual ferts for flowering and vege periods?
I will be planting in march as the daylight hours are just under 12 hours and it will be sexually mature in about two months?? By then daylight hours would have gone up to 13 hours so it wont start flowering but will stay in vege phase till about august when daylight hours get shorter and flowering will begin and harvest in november. that is what i understand from what i have been reading anyway.

i think you should be fine. you should document your growing , im sure i speak for everyone when i say id like to see the progress.
and im sure u can find an organic substitue for nutrients. even just some mollassas could probably get u threw a grow.

Thank you for all your replies:mrgreen:
When i get my seeds i will start a grow log. Yeah molasses is a good idea. Maybe i might even attempt a fully organic grow and see what happens. Peace:eyesmoke:

Make sure you obtain a strain that has strong genetics from an equatorial ancestor. Most sativas should be fine. I have found by looking into your inquiry, that indicas can grow there, just veg inside and make sure your timing doesn't have them flowering outdoors in rain season. The indicas will start flowering quickly after they are taken outside. He also said that the general rules of MJ growing in tropics is out the window.

I do agree though, if you do a tropical grow, please keep a journal and provide some pics if you can. I'd love to follow it.

on another note if you have a 12/12 light cycle from the start you may have to cause it to have a 18/6 or 24/0 light cycle other wise itll be in flower

It's fine, just get the right genetics. Go with a PURE EQUATORIAL SATIVA. Some pure Thai would be my choice if i lived in the tropics. Or some original Haze; It's parent plants are all tropical Sativas.
