trouble with harvest time on train wreck

I have been growing for 6 years and always checked my tricho's and new when to harvest but I recently ordered fem Trainwreck from Herbies seeds.They say it flowers in 8 weeks.The first cycles I let go 8 weeks and never saw any amber trichoms just milky but the smoke was great.well I checked the buds at 40 days and all milky tricho's with couple amber.So now I am thinking maybe I am waiting to long cuase the buds are 80%red all milky and red tricho's at 40 days.if I wait 60 days the buds turn lime green no red hairs all milky tricho's.I did cut a budat40 day and ioing to smke it to see.I guess what I am asking for is any advice.

Do you ever check the trichs after harvest, just before they are fully dry?

Sometimes, I notice they will "mature" during their cure. Some folks including authors of books say that once chopped, thats it....

I say, not so.......

once chopped, plants still have water molecules attached to their plant material. Once dried, it alter the materials and possibly the trichs color from water loss.

Amber Trichome = Degraded Bud....
Why would you want to wait until your bud is degraded?
Waiting until you see lots of amber trics and you will be smoking dust....

The hairs color do not matter....
Say that line again...

The 'Hairs' on your top cola, will recede back into bud, and all the color hairs will recede back into bud...
This is when your harvest window opens...

Any time after this is fine...

Personally, I wait for all my Pistols to recede back into bud... as hairs recede, bud plumps....
Most do not wait, and harvest too soon....
Your harvest window sounds open...
It's your plant... What is it telling You?
