A frustrated Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants police to “enforce the law” and criminally charge illegal marijuana dispensaries — even though weed legalization is looming.

“People are right now breaking the law,” Trudeau told the Star’s editorial board on Friday.

“We haven’t changed the laws. We haven’t legalized it yet. Yes, we got a clear mandate to do that. We’ve said we will. We’ve said we’re going to do it to protect our kids and to keep the money out of the pockets of criminals.”

But the spread of storefront “dispensaries” — scores of which have popped up on Toronto streets this year — is clearly a concern to the prime minister.

“It’s a situation that is frustrating and I can understand people’s frustration on this,” Trudeau said.

“So, I don’t know how much clearer we can be that we’re not legalizing marijuana to please recreational users,” he said.

“I mean, that will be a byproduct. We recognize that that is something that’s going to happen when it happens, but it’s not happened yet.”


I wonder how many people would have voted for the Liberals if he had said 'We aren't legalizing to please recreational users' before the election?

Well, let's see. Canadians have been growing, selling and smoking cannabis throughout prohibition, so the fact that it isn't legal is not a deterrent. If the problem is dispensaries selling 'illegally', perhaps everyone should just go back to the black market. It's worked very well for a very long time. Justin Trudeau does not dictate policing to the provinces and municipalities. He may say he would like the police to focus on a certain area, but he has no power to enforce. Municipal police forces do not have the time, the resources or the will to waste on something that is not a safety concern for their city. Vancouver, Victoria and several other cities have licensed these dispensaries, giving them validation and making the city a co-conspirator in the distribution of cannabis. This is nothing more than lip-flapping to try to appease a certain segment of society, and divert attention away from the insider trading allegations.

It's still baffles me that they are shutting down established dispensaries. I've been to one, and the only people in the waiting room were other sick people that wanted more reasonably priced meds than the LPs offered and a wider selection. If they want to bust drug dealers or hells angels go for it. But shutting down a place that helps sick patients because the current system has been found lacking makes me want to puke.

Stop being a douche and trying to get your sticky little fingers in the pot before legalizing. It's time Trudeau.

I may have to take my rose coloured glasses off eventually, but I still have hope the government may do the right thing. It's only year 1/4. But this time next year if legalization is not in play I'm going to be fucking pissed.
Also not pleased that he back tracked on the help he promised our Abboriginal folks. Time will tell.
