Trying to decide .. standard grow or SOG ?? Please Help Decide!

Im trying to decide the best way to finish my grow. Right now I have 2 clones that i have been vegging for about 2 months. I also have 4 auto-flowers seedlings and 3 femmed seedlings that are about a month old.



This is how they look now, maybe a little bigger as that picture is about 10 days old. My original plan was to just but them into flowering and grow out the other ones for mothers for sea of green (minus the auto-flowers which would be finished by then).

But im kinda thinking it might be best to sea of green them as well. I have a veg room of 4x3x5 with a 400w MH and a flower room of the same size with a HPS. Both of them have tons of good places where clones could be taken from. I can take some more pics if it helps anyone.

Could someone please advise me on the next best step to take?

your really late to put them in a sea of green, imho I would do low stress training on them and just tie the branches down some to open up the plant more and throw them into flower. Just be prepared to stake the branches to help them carry the weight of the buds, unless you have a lot of head room for the plant to stretch out then yeah you could a SoG or SCRoG for each plant. Really all depends on what you are looking to get out of them.

... I thought the whole point of SOG was to grow a good mother then take clones.. root .. and then flower the healthy rooted clones??

Im not really sure how it could be too late for a sea of green. Im pretty sure there are people that keep the same mother for YEARS...

that is the point of sea of green, but if you read his post he said he was going to put the two larger plants into flower and they are a bit too big to do a sea of green with. 3 weeks max in veg from everything that I read, because that is exactly what I will be doing as soon as my beans arrive in the mail. I will be growing 4 dif strains as mothers and then doing clones off of them to fill a 3d x 4t x 6w area.

Still dose not explain how people keep mothers for YEARS and do SOG with them. Seems like it would be better to wait longer as you would have more locations to take clones from.

No need to keep mothers for SoG, I always laugh when I see those big ass kiebler elf trees jammed into basements and used as mothers; you can just as effectively have a perpetual SoG with 18" clones.

There are a lot of factors that SHOULD be considered when deciding on a particular growing style

Let me see if i got this right : you have theese two plants on your veg area with 400w MH and a flower area the same size with 400w HPS that currently is empty?
my tip would be this : try both
1. take enough clones to fill out your flower area
2 use your entire flower area and run lights 24/0 untill the clones root
3 flower and then harvest when ready. Meanwhile the 2 mothers will veg even more and become bigger. so dont forget to LST the shit out of them.
4 when you finished flowering your clones put you 2 big ass mothers into the flowering chamber and flower away! make sure to take "safety-cuttings" if you wanna save those genetics
5 finish flowering your big ass LST mothers and compare what style suited you best.

Tip 1 : Single Big plants are easier to maintain than 100's of small ones
Tip 2 : SoG is a lot more work, and not recommended for novice growers

How many clones could safely taken from 1 plant at a given time? Most of the branches are 12 inches is this to large for a clone?

I had some issue with PH lock out a few weeks ago but that seems to be resolved. Ill take a few pictures later.

The only reason that the mothers look like that is only due to the way they take the clones off of them. A friend of mine that does a full hydro set up has had a mother plant for just shy of 20 months now, it is 3 and a half feet tall and gives plenty of clones. Every now and then he cuts it back and lets it heal it self and it takes off again. They don't have to look like a wreck unless you make them. I however am not an expert at it, as I have only started my learning process for indoor growing and have a long ways to go.

just take all the clones you need bro. since you wont take new clones from them and they will get at least 8 weeks to recuperate i see no problem with taking a lot of clones even if it would induce a bit of stress. my clones are cut to fit into my dome and they are usually about 5-15 cm.. 12 inch i would say is to much.. remember you dont have to use a whole branch, you can actually cut the branch into several pieces, as long a there is an internode and some leafs it should be no problem. there are a lot of good cloning guides around.. i think you should check them out .

Basically every time you double the distance from the light you quarter the strength of the light. The second picture just shows the distribution of the red 'rays' in a grid system to show why.
