trying to wire up a 200w hps street light

some drunken idiot ran his car into a pole near my house and knocked it over. the street light fell off and smashed on the concrete. the metal housing was cracked through, the bulb was obliterated with its base stuck in the socket, and the light was rendered entirely unfit for use. so i asked the workmen if i could have the light and they let me take it with no objections.

after getting the base of the light bulb out of the socket, i opened the thing up and took the parts out: transformer, capacitor, ignitor, socket, photosensor (which i threw out, as it was not hooked up to anything anymore, and was smashed irreparably anyway)

i figured it might be kind of hard to see where all those wires are going so i made a little diagram:

now i am planning to make some sort of housing for this and wire it up to provide some light inside my house. i was looking around on the internet for schematics of HPS wiring setups and this looks different than some others. but apparently it was working ok when it was set up like this, and i don't know what else i'd do to it to make it work. maybe the photosensor had something to do with the way it was wired... or maybe it was supposed to be wired in a series with other lights somehow?

my questions are:

1. can i cut the wires running to the socket and attach some longer ones so i don't have to have all the electrical stuff hanging up in the air?

2. how do i ground it?

3. is it wired up right as it is, and not going to cause a fire or a blown fuse when i plug it in?

any comments/help are welcome, thanks RM

yes you can make the wires longer (if making it alot longer use a heavier gauge wire) and remote locate everything else.

ground to the metal portion of the ballast

the wiring is fine aslong as none of it is damaged

i don't think any of it is, the corner of the transformer is a little bent but the capacitor and the circuit board ignitor seems to be ok and even the ceramic socket appears undamaged. the metal shell of the street light gave its life to protect its contents. RIP
