Tubular Heaters

Does anyone know how effective tubular heaters are for grow tents?
I have to turn down my fan because the temps drop below 60, during dark time.
But then the RH shoots up.

Everything from 12" 45w to 4ft 120w are available, quite inexpensively.

Suggestions for alternatives are also welcome.

Hey NoE.

I use an 80w version in my room.

If used solely it isn't enough to keep room temps up.

But added with a dehumidifier to keep my RH in check and it keeps my temps golden for a grand total of 301w of electric.

Alternatives are oil filled radiators or convector heaters. Both of which are upwards of 700w to run for an hour.

Hello Sensei J,
Yeah - big difference of power consumption.

The temps are OK but, during the 12 hours of darkness, on the coldest of winter days, the fan takes it to a touch below 60.
And if I turn the fan down, the RH rises.
So it's only something to take the edge off on the coldest days.

In about 2 months you and I need to discuss what further equipment would most benefit my set up.
By then the 'heating' issue will probably be sorted out naturally - until late Autumn.
BUT controlling heat build up may become the challenge??
but advising me on a dehumidifier and an environment controller may be priorities...?

No worries.

Something I used to do when my room was configured slightly different was to just stick the house heating on during dark hours.

This increased ambient air temp of the room with my grow located in it and thus increased my grows temps due to drawing in air from within the room.

That's exactly what I try to avoid doing.
I need to keep the overall usage as low as possible.
I only put the heating for an hour, every 2nd day.
This warms the place up so I can shower in comfort.

45W Tubular Heater.jpgAnother thing you can do, which maybe you are already doing is to use a timer to switch off the extractor some of the time during the dark hours, and at the same time using another timer to switch on the tubular heater, with a little bit of experimenting you can greatly improve the temps during the dark time. PS heres the heater, I use.
