Turkey Bags vs Mason Jars vs Vaccum Pack vs ????

Lets talk long term storage in varying amounts. Long before there were boveda humidity packs or even vaccum seal, we had ziploc storage bags. One bag might be iffy so maybe we used two to be sure it was airtight. And Mason Jars, they are the best, but 100 1 quart mason jars take up a lot of space. When vaccum bags and turkey bags came out, they became popular.
Besides the packaging, we learned one of the most important things is to keep the medicine OUT of the light. Light degrades cannabis faster than anything.

So the question and point of this thread is, how do you do it, and why? What led you to the methods you use today? Do you use humidity packs? Would you, for instance, vaccum seal a humidity pack with a lb or two for long term storage? How about airtight 5 gallon buckets?? Or large plastic tupperware?

Educate us, because so many are looking for these methods and answers, and your knowledge could help to save a lot of medicine from going bad, and maybe even help it get into the right hands to make a difference in someones life.

And, Begin please.

Vac n seal bags in black 5gal buckets with screw top lids.

I just seal the bags without vacuum, then put them in the buckets. No need to use humidity packs if there is no air exchange.
Wow, I never knew this.!! Sounds very cost effective, are these kids, do they have that locking system with teeth as you tighten them? Any gasket, rubber or otherwise.???

Ahh, yes. I've a friend who uses these, has many different sizes. Keeps air and light out and can put a tape label on the lid. Think I trimmed some big ones last year. They make like a 3 or 5 gal too don't they?

Honestly im not sure they get any better of a seal than a regular 5 gallon bucket lid but they are sooo much easier to use.

That was exactly why I used the vac bags. When I was trying to figure out a better way because jars take up a lot of room. And I had a few different kinds so broke it all down to about a z each and labeled. Now you can put multiple strains in and in useable sizes.

Yeah that makes sense. One thing to consider is how the law looks at it. Several, if not hundreds, of vacuum sealed "packages" looks a lot different than "jars of weed", even in "legal" areas. But I agree, vacuum sealed in a bucket is pretty much the ideal storage.

I agree with you. It was something I considered. But 10 jars or 10 vac bags...pretty much the same thing if they want to be pricks.

I think some legal areas limit how much you can keep and that could be a issue. But if you're not doing anything ilegal you shouldn't be to worried.

I dont think they can allow you to grow 12 plants and then tell you you cant keep what you created/produced. There is a line in the law that allows you, or , us here in MA, to keep everything we grow. Yes, how you package and even having a digital scale around can cause the eyes of the law to look through whatever scope they choose. Even though it makes sense to wanna store your medicine incrementally. Every other medicine is able to be measured, but measure cannabis, and you a DEALER!!! (oh my)

Digital scale is not ilegal. If someone is a dealer and acts like a dealer.......yes I can see it being used against them.

I saw the jungle boys say they store bucked, untrimmed nugs in buckets or barrels and they are trimmed right before they are put out for sale. The reasoning was something ridiculous like you dont unpeel a banana and let it sit out for days until you are ready to eat it.

hmmmm, makes sense to me.....

this is good to know I assumed there was a cap

You never know. The whole "vacuum sealed packages" thing just has that stigma, especially if you have specific amounts partitioned up. The whole thing is, according to the law they may have nothing on you, but you will still spend thousands on a lawyer fighting it.
