Tutorial to Growing with Cfl's

I know everyone says to veg under a 6500 or 5000 light. How bad would it be to use 3000 spectrum light. I am running 6x40 watt CFL's that are all 3000. I didn't realize this until I go them home and read the little print on the bulb. I went back to the store home depot and lowes and could not find any bulbs that run in the 5000-6500 spectrum except the smaller watts. Any other chain stores that would carry these?

doin the cfl thang n a bubbleponic setup any sugestions...
oh yea kinda like a "newbie"

im going to be growing just one plant. the box i will be using is 2 ft x 2 ft. x 5 ft. I wantes to know how many CFL's top to bottom i will need.

Do watts even matter with CFL's or should i be looking at lumen's only? If you had to use CFL's to grow 3 plants how would you guys do it? I would like to know some options. What would be the best setup you think?

I am using both day cfls as well as warm white will there be a problem later when I bud because i am using both instead of just warm when I bud?
I just set up an aeroponic system with 10 dual spectrum II blubs, 5 grow, 5 flower from stealth hydro that are 85 watts and 4200 lumens each for a 12sq.' grow area. starting with 5 clones. following rosemans thread for cfl grow but going aero v. bubble.

comments encouraged..:hump:

PEACE! I am a fairly new grower and I have only used CFL's to grow(or attempt to). I still have a problem with the heat build up but the lights are close to the foliage so it's going to get hot regardless. I have had access to the info provided by the good DR. for a few months now and I got it from a torrent but it was by the good doc himself kiss-assso thank you doc and plus rep because I learned a good deal from the what I had downloaded (on a torrent copied from O.G.) and I happened to see that you were here with the same thing so I had to give the respect where the respect is due. Unfortunately I have not seen a crop out yet (schwag bagseed though, just to learn) and I have just placed an order with Attitude (my first:mrgreen:).

I have some questions about the heat though and I was wondering if any of the more experienced growers would take a stab at this for me.......I have a room which I built that is 3' x 3' x 4'h and I use 23w 27w and 65w cfl's roughly about 20 in total. Now is the amount of bulbs TOO much for the space (which also has 2- 4"inductor fans near the top of the back wall with an oscillating Blizzard fan) and hence I will either have to cut it down or is it fine and I have to get more air on the bulbs? Any suggestions on the cooling of the whole thing withoput the use of an air conditioner all day would be appreciated and of course repped:peace:

Can't remember if I posted here yet or not or if I repped you yet or not, but I was re-reading this thread again today and had to post saying how much I appreciate you posting this! Starting my first grow in approximately 6 or 7 months so every bit of info I can get is extremely helpful! =]

man i dont know whats so hard for everybody to figure out how to grow with cfl's. i have a speaker i turned into a grow boc with 2 cfls in it and its bvee the easiest grow ever...just keep the fuckers only a couple inches away from the light and have decent ventilation and there will be no problems.

Try using the small fans on top as exhaust. That way you push from the inside lower fan across the light and all the heat out of the top. So reverse em and check your temps after a few hours.

This way all the heat stays at the top and the lower fan will keep the girls cool and moving. Good circulation at 85 degrees is totally acceptable.

THANKS YOUNG MAN:mrgreen:. I appreciate the response. Since I have your ear though I wonder if you can take a stab at this...I have just had most of the autos that I brought pop, at first the stems were green and everything looked fine. A few hours later though, the stems are purple and I can't figure out why. I've had schwag seeds growing before that had the same thing but I always attributed it to the crappy genetics. The only things that I have read are speaking about after this stage of life so I am stuck. Don't want to muck up my first pro beans grow:mrgreen: and so I need to figure out what is wrong and find the best course of action to minimalize the damage due to lack of knowledge. The only thing that I can tell you is that they are in a soiless mix with an organic fert named Rainbow Mix GROW 5-5-2 (which says it feeds for 90 days)---this fert I used the least amount suggested per gal. of soil (2 1/2 Tbsp). With this in mind, I don't feel that they are burning. The lights are 23w & 27w Daylight CFLs which are 5 in. away from the sprouts so as not to burn them.

So, can you tackle this for me? I will look to move the exhaust fans up to the roof of the box (when I can get a hole saw again) thank you. :peace:

Your seedlings are fine, this is a weed you know. Following the instructions is always a good idea with one caveat, most nute additives should be cut in half. I have no experience with anything but organic soil mixes and amendments. However, most seedlings need nothing but water for 30 days while in soil. At three weeks a mild feed is ok like worm casting tea. Replenishes soil but will not burn your plants. Alaska Morbloom is also mild. I use 1/4 dose at three weeks or 4inches and four nodes, and increase by on quarter every other feeding. I use AM 0-10-10 through out flower every other feeding. If I start loosing fan leaves to early in flower from the bottom up, I mix up a good gallon of tea with a normal dose of Morbloom and 1 dose of bat guano and a double dose of worm castings, 1/2 dose of Epsom salts, and two tablespoons of molasses. you wont get the dying leaves back but that still is no cause for alarm. If its green on top and well fed it should finish.

The main thing here is to never get over excited when a problem comes up. And then, make sure it really is a problem. Half the time a diagnosis of over attentive is in order. Like when you finally get the hottest chick you ever had, and then ruin it by over calling, over protecting, and over the top in all areas.

They like oxygen, cabonated water without quinine or soda water at the grocery is 69 cents a bottle. Keeps the soil aerated and heathy and weed metabolizes a bit faster in my opinion.

Thanx for the advice Coot. I will look to get the organics going throughout the entire grow. Today they look better though a bit runt-ish still ( I guess that's autos for you). I have been allowing the soil to dry out and then I add more so as not to stress them. From what I am understanding from others is that this will ensure that the organic nutes that I added in teh beginning will not overdo it. The cotlyedon are a bit darker green though, a cause for concern or not. With the organic fert added to the soil, would a normal flushing of water do the trick (if it is too much, I'm saying). From all posts that I have read on the organic soil growing, usually they are not flushing until the end and by that time they are complete with the nutes and on straight water so they say there's not much need. Do you find that to be the case?

Thank you for the reply and the assistance. You have been helpful.

PEACE
