Haha, @Blunted 4 lyfe, I'm also looking at upgrading my veg lighting to either t5s or 2 400 watt MH. Heat wise, I'm leaning towards the t5s, but a fellow grower here said he read that t5s put out a good amount of heat and that MH can actually be cooler depending on the setup. My veg space is 5x5 so I was also looking at using a 1000 watt MH. I do have a window in there to vent out the heat, or I can vent it to the attic.

I grow in a limited space myself 3.5 x3.5 x 8, hence I had to settle for a 2 footer I couldn't get a 4 foot fixture in my space, but someone did give you wrong info on t5's there is very little heat compared to a mh/hps

My latest bean popped on January 10th I had it under a t5 for first 3 weeks inches away from my plants in solo cups, now I have it under mh for next 4-6 weeks before I flip to 12/12....when I had it under t5's it was inches from the canopy, no stress or burns.

Here is the t5 and 400 watt mh, like I said I'll keep tweaking and tweaking until I get it just right.

Is there any noticeable growth difference between the t5s and MH @Blunted 4 lyfe

If I install t5s, I can have 2 four footers and use a few CFLs for sidelights. If I go MH, it'll have to be 2 400s, 2 600s or a 1000 watter due to my average plant count in veg.

Oh yeah big ass difference the solo cup picture was the day before transplant 1/30 my bean popped on 1/10. The second pic was this morning I transplanted on 1/31 you can see the difference and that was after topping & Fimming w/light LST so it would've been taller.

On a different matter I know you grow organic, so do I, I just did a tea with this 3 products and wholly shit did it smell. Waiting for ewc that will be here tomorrow and ordered red wiggler worms for my bin that I'm building.

I'm on my second grow and went to a 2' x 8 bulb t5 for vegging and plan to flower under my 400 watt hps. It's a work in progress and I have the funds to throw into different lighting until I dial it in just right. Then I'll sell off what I don't use.
But prices are way down on lighting you can get a decent mh/hps 400w for less then a buck fifty maybe even a 600w but that's a heating problem I don't need.

I too switched lighting now using pled and never looked back. Finishing up my fourth grow so cfls do work for veg and flower depends on results you are looking for I used a total of 550 actual got a decent harvest grow cfl and with cfl it's the lumens that's the most important...glb

Hey I don't mean to Jump in randomly but I was looking for some help/advice/tips/anything lol I'm looking to put two 3' 6500k t5 lights diagonally from each other buying four cost too damn much (one for each corner of the box) then I need help choosing a cheap led I can put on top of the box need one that the plant can be close too. Any help would be great here's a YouTube link to my box to help with the visualization help me get lighting in there trying to maximize the box for yield, cheers!


Just looking for a budget light setup for that box not high powered hps or super led lights I want to maximize the size of the box lol I'm not even sure on how many plants yet as idk anything be I have no experience this will be my first grow

It's 21x21x4' also a lot of led ppl are telling me it's not big enough and this and that but ppl have done it so they must stick to one side of the forum I mean if kids can grow in a damn pc tower I can easily fit 2 plants with like 3wks veg time

If u r looking for less expensive I would go popular grow led

What about the wattage per plant worth cfls? What would you recommend the minimum watts-per-plant be, and the maximum of applicable? Ty for the info, great stuff!

20160514_150244.jpgI'm using led for the lowest possible power consumption and after 2 and a half months I'm happy..maybe quantity is lower but the quality is there..i added more time on all processes due to the led but result is fuckin sweet. Flushing for 1 to 2 weeks then drying. .growing I've learnt ovwr time is as individual as ourselves. .

use both if using cfls. mix it up. they will grow better and become more dense that just using one or the other. so do 2700k and 6500k or 2700/5000. 6500 is better

Hello guys, Happy Holidays first of all :) I would like to the ask the question of using both 'cool' an 'warm' CFLs at the same time during a grow, in both the vegetative an flowering stages. I'm currently on my first ever grow an I'm using CFLs. I used the cool bulb veg an I'm currently using the warm bulb for flower. Is it better to use both lights during flower to increase light diversity or should I just stick with I'm doing. My plant atm is super healthy, real frosty bud sites developing an its pungent as hell :) but I was wondering if introducing a cool bulb into the flowering phase would increase yeilds, qaulity, overall outcome etc. ? I appreciate your time folks.

well since everything is going well its not necessary.
If you want to add them and not take away the red light its a good idea.
I always have mixed spectrum 70% blue 20% red 10% white 5000k then flower I switch to red 70% and blue 20%.

what you are trying to do is mimic what natural sun spectrum we get in the fall and summer.
when I was in my teens I did 6500k veg and 2700k flower but when two blubs blew during the 3rd week of flower I added a 6500k that worked and 1 5000k I stole from the basement overhead fixture. there was a difference to me in just about all factors smell taste yield on the two trays of cuttings I had so now its what I always do...its probably just me thou.

Yeah Slapme that's what I wzs thinking...adding the cool in with warm during flower. I'm stuck between that...or my warm CFLs and a LED rig ? Thanks for replying mate.

I am wondering can i hang a 200w 2700k and a 200w 6500 would it be helpful throughout the whole grow? i want to do 4 autoflower 5gallon pots in a 3x3x6 tent.
