seems like someone based in reality would like to keep an eye on the fuckery of politicians in general....
What does twitter have to do with keeping an eye on politicians? Twitter is not necessary to know what politicians are doing or what they're saying. Controversial tweets are always picked up by actual news outlets anyway. Watch an hour of MSNBC in the evening and they'll give you a run down of who tweeted what for the day. CNN, Politico, BBC, Al Jazeera, all run stories containing the juiciest tweets of the day.

I dislike the format of twitter. I always have. I prefer to seek out information rather than have it pushed to me.

absolutely nothing...i was replying to your statement that someone living in reality would not be spending time on twitter or reading political tweets.
people express their real opinions online, because they can be anonymous and not get punched in the head for saying offensive shit in person...
twitter is a good way to judge the sentiments of large blocks of people. some more dramatic statements get thousands of both positive and negative reactions. the number of both, and sometimes the vehemence with which those reactions are expressed, are a pretty good barometer of the way people really feel. it is a platform that people use to say what they really want to say, but don't have the guts to in person...and if knowing what those attitudes are and how strongly they are felt isn't a useful metric of "reality"...i don't know what is.
it isn't even close to a source of facts, it's a measure of feelings...

The bottom line is that an adequate supply of food is a human right, and we must do all we can to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry, no matter what the cost.

And in fact, the cost might be less than you think.

A study produced in Germany suggests that the cost of ending world hunger within the next 10 years amounts to about $330 billion – $33 billion per year, spread between all the world’s countries. That money, the study says, would go towards increased social aid for poorer people, technological investments to improve agricultural production, and education in training.

While $330 billion may sound like a lot, the cost of not spending money to end world hunger is much steeper: human suffering, increased conflict, and political and economic instability lasting generations.

We can stop world hunger if we choose to. But while the world figures out long-term solutions, there are still people who need our help right now.

Let's kill Musk and distribute his money* to end world hunger.

I debate whether food is first or a roof with bed, heat/AC and electrical outlets is first because when it came down to it I would've taken my life over no roof but not no food..there's always food bank..there's no roof bank- I noticed the unhoused are well fed here but what is food without roof? Eating in doorways and basement accesses; leaving the trash everywhere..garbage is expensive here, you have to pay separately from water (Florida) Even the city doesn't put out many cans and no place to throw..though I've seen garbage left in park with trash can right there..scratch offs..wow! Who has money for that shit? The unhoused?

I express my opinion everywhere online as first of my generation to retire into the world of social media. At 62, I got my full check and they can't take it away therefore, I use my real name.

Know my name..America..know my name.

being homeless doesn't make you any smarter...some homeless people are homeless because they've had some really bad shit happen to them, though no real fault of their own, and some are homeless because they've never made a good decision in their entire lives, and are apparently incapable of learning to.
this is why we need to reactivate all the state mental hospitals the reagan administration closed down...there are people who will remain indigent their entire lives, and NEED supervision.

well, sure, but you must realize by now that you aren't typical....and neither am i. most of the people here aren't, and the ones that wander in usually wander back out fairly quickly.

" it is a platform that people use to say what they really want to say, but don't have the guts to in person"

Many of the people running their yappers on social media platforms have never known a time when there wasn't social media, cellphones, etc... Hell, it used to be that it took a week for things to trickle down the grapevine. Now with a keystroke you can send anything you want to thousands, millions of people in an instant. If you wanted to organize a party you couldn't just send out a tweet, make a post on facebook, or send a group text. You had to call using a rotary dial phone and if someone wasn't home then you had to call back because people didn't even have answering machines.

If you ran your mouth you had better be able to back it up because word would eventually get around and it usually led to a confrontation. Fists and feet were how we used to deal with things. Those that couldn't back up their words were forced to hide out and were cut off. Now people say anything they want with no repercussions because they can hide out and still have access through social media to run their mouths and say anything you want.

I sure miss those days. Social media while at first looked at as something positive has turned into cesspool where there are no checks and balances. It's harmed society and I don't see it ever becoming anything where the positives outweigh the negatives. Twitter, facebook, ticktok, Instagram, are like a disease.

Some people don't live in a legal state or live in a country with severe penalties for cannabis. It's not a good idea for everyone to use their real name. There are members on this site that know who I am that I've known for years and others that I've just recently met but have sat down and had a beer with.

I'm not using my real name because I interact with people that don't consume cannabis and I keep that to myself and others. I've also been a self employed IT consultant for the past 15 years and even though I haven't done any significant work recently I'm thinking about getting back into the workplace and taking some jobs. I don't want a prospective client to do a google search for my name and get a bunch of results pointing to rollitup and posts of me discussing growing cannabis complete with pictures of plants. Once it's online it's there forever.

As you say, in the US, people have access to food. Has the US ever experienced famine? Famine causes massive numbers of people to leave their country and become homeless migrants. Your situation isn't the same.

the only time the US has come close to famine was the dustbowl, which was actually 4 events spread out from 1930 to 1940. with the great depression occurring at the same time, this was the only period in US history with wide spread hunger. homelessness and unemployment soared, small farms failed at a frightening rate, many people became subsistence farmers just to feed themselves and their families.
