Uh oh....I think I hurt my babies

I'm gonna try to remember all that I want to say in this post but I may leave some things out.

First off I read ALOT of the posts here and I've searched around for the answers but I'd like to gather some opinions on those who have grown before.

Background - I germinated some bag seed and some white widow seeds that I ordered online. I can see a huge difference in quality and I must say the seeds I paid for are worth every penny. Okay now to the issue. I had these babies under flouros and a heat mat with a humidity dome and they were doing awesome. I set up a DWC w/ my 1000w MH light and put the babies in. Then the problems started. I did pH the res and used half strength nutes. My thoughts on the problem are as follows.

Heat damage - light too close to plants. It was fine for my hand to be between the plants and the light so I'm thinking this probably isn't it.

pH - I checked the res after nuts and it was up to 7! WTF! Should I be adjusting pH before or after adding nutes.

Nute burn - I think this is what the prob was - I shouldn't use nutes until at least 2 weeks and I should probably use them very sparingly at that. I was using them at 1/4 strength for seedlings and I upped to 1/2 strength in the DWC so I'm thinking this is the problem. The leaves started out yellow and you can see the brown and then even gray at the edges starting to form. By the way my tapwater had about 300ppm and after nutes I was up to about 500ppm. Should I be buying distilled water or something for my res and replacing it every week as suggested?

I did remove them from the DWC, flushed the rockwool with pH 5.5 water and placed them back into the humidity dome to try and save them. The weird thing about this was that two plants did NOT show these signs of the 6.

I appreciate all help and thanks again!

Just some idiot
most nutes are buffered so pH before then do an adjustment if you must. How close is the 1000 watt? Also maybe go 1/4 nutes in the beginning...what kind of nutes are you using? You wanna ease the little seedlings in...to be honest with you I usually just add some Vegan Compost Tea, Liquid Karma, and some water conditioner when they are seedlings, especially if I am not familiar with the strain.

Here's a link to the Vegan Compost Tea...I just discovered it and it really is good at any stage plus it's not too expensive my seedlings love it so far, same with the big plants.

I just started a grow in DWC. I germed in the medium and started nuts at 1/10th. 7 days in and they have their third set of leafs. I just think your nuts are to high.

I'm using General Hydroponics Flora Series.

I had the 1000w pretty close - within 12 inches, however I have the lens enclosure for the reflector and a dayton fan with ductwork attached cooling it so I'm able to get my hand VERY close to the bulb witout it being hot (within 3 inches).

Sounds like it may be over fertilization, nuteburn. Yes. Have you flushed your babies? You should flush monthly. Try flushing then re-introduce ferts after 2 weeks.

you said you have a 1000w within 12 Inches????????

WAY to close, start at 3-4 feet if possible, work down, seedlings should not have that much light
