Hey fellow tokers!

I just wanted to report that i found a spider in my grow room today. Thankfully it was not a spider mite but a false widow spider! I live in the UK and i have never seen one before until today. It looked like a Black Widow because its from the same family.
When i found it, it was on the soil of one of my plants and it scared the hell out of me cos i hate spiders. It had made a web across 4 of my plants that was hard to remove.
I did some research into this spider and found out that it came into britain in 1870 on a bunch of banana's. It is now thriving in this country due to global warming and there are now hundreds of thousands of them here now.
They are the only spider in the UK that can penetrate the skin when it bites you! THe pain is worse than a bee or wasp skin and one man was taken to hospital after being biten three times by one.It caused a heart seisure and the guy said the pain was horrific.
I hope the spider did'nt lay any eggs in my grow room cos that would freak me right out!
So UK growers beware of this spider it may make a home in your grow room because it's nice and warm!!!

Peace all. :peace:

Well yes because the only reason they can survive in this country is because of the warmer winters caused by global warming. They just die if its too cold but now they are spreading and fast!
Only the females venom is toxic and could put you in hospital for a few days.
They only bite if you disturb them or prevoke them.

How about systematic changes the earth goes through every so often. And with trade, it is relatively easy to bring different species of animals to different parts of the world.

LOL Not from global warming (well not from the 'man made' aspect of it. Wow, I can see a whole sidetrack coming) You said they came over in 1870. The industrial age was just beginning.

Anyways sorry to hear that, especially since they freak ya out.
Hope they stay out. Something as simple as cayenne pepper dust, they won't cross it. (unless they are coming in from above)

All Hail Al Gore!

There is no indiputable evidence that human beings have had any long-term effect on global temperatures. Watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and "An Inconvenient Truth" on the same day and then come back with an informed opinion. If you have studied both sides and still believe in global warming, I will accept your opinion without argue.
Your statement that global warming is responsible for the continued existance of a species (that has been living in the area since 1870) leads me to believe you don't understand the premise of global warming.

Wow, you're right! Which is why staffers at the EPA are so upset because their reports get censored. Which is why thousands of scientists from hundreds of countries got together and decided in tandem that it WAS humans and it WAS far more severe than the regular cycles the earth goes through. You claim to have educated yourself, yet all you do is accept what is most comfortable to you and your lifestyle. Get your head away from Big Oil, Detroit, and the Bush administration and open your eyes. We are destroying this planet, slowly but surely. You don't need to accept it now, but soon you will, because it will impact your life very severly.

Excellent point! However, over half the scientists named on the report have requested that their names be removed from it because of inaccuracies and unconfirmed speculation. Oh, and it was 600 scientists and they determined that humans were "very likely" the cause of global warming ("very likely" ≠ "WAS"). They weren't from "hundreds of countries", but their findings were accepted by over 100 countries. Most of the scientists were from the EU and North America. I'm not bashing your opinion, but if you're going to quote theories from a 2006 report you might want to know at least a little about it.

I have NO (NO NO NO NO NO)interest in supporting the oil companies or Bush's war machine. In fact, I'm a registered Libertarian and haven't ever voted for a major party presidential candidate. I'm also a big fan of evaluating all the available evidence and making an informed, rational decision.

This discussion in not about "are we hurting our environment?". I'm absolutely certain that the cloud that lingers over Los Angeles is unhealthy and possibly damaging to the environment. But the question at hand is "Are humans causing a permanent, irreversible warming of the earth's atmosphere?". And to that, nobody is certain.
