Uncle bens germination guide?

Paper towel method works wonders. I always get 90% germinate rate. If it's not broke why fix it.
It's a little ironic to state that. Putting a seed in the dirt with some water works every time for me, and well, it's rather how nature works. It's certainly not a broken system. Yet you feel the need to have fixed it by using paper towels instead.

That's true. This forum is so fast you can read for days..He should have a section.
Why? He screws up enough gardens already with his half truths and bias information.

Germinate in soil, I never for the life of me got why anyone germs in towels.
Germinating in a towel can do a couple of things...one, you can put the tap root downwards every time increasing your seed to soil success rate. Two, allows you a visual of your germination rates. When you have planted as many seeds as I have you find out real quick that a seed that doesn't just sit right in the soil can do a number of things from rotting right down to upwards growing tap roots. Paper towel germination is just another way of assuring control.

Il take 98% success in dirt or rockwool over 90% in a paper towel any day. The dirt wasnt broke but everyone decided it needed to be fixed by using a paper towel instead, read the threads and you will notice how many people fuck it up. Set it n forget it
Good for you.

less handling equals less chance of a fuck up.
Not necessarily. When a grower has an idea of what to do there is little chance of failure and also allows a visual of how many plants to expect to pop.....JAS

the fact that you can go to a store and spend $100 on one bottle of partial nutes vs jacks that you can grow very successful with for $10. Of course jacks is for non organic gardening though.
So the funny social experiment is going to a "hydroponic" store and asking for a non hydroponic nute and being shocked that they dont have it? Would you like to talk of the success you have had using Jacks classic in a inert hydro setup as a stand alone fert? Dont mean to get off topic but I had to ask

People do things differently it doesn't make them wrong, all are proven to be successful methods. I don't see why people are trying to prove one better then the other here. There is no need to. It's just standard e-peen measuring bullshit, no need for it. Argue for sake of arguing, is it UB's name in the post? Shit's like Voldemort or something.

Honestly coco pellets or straight into pre charged coco in beer cups is where its at for doing under 50 beans over that space becomes an issue so plugs or cubes become the only option.
Im done taking advice from anyone whos: plant selection process includes popping a single five pack or one ceed at a time, puts themselves on a pedistal, or people that stick to the broken trail blindly and dont actually learn a thing for themselves.

Where's the proof of that? He sites studies done, and backs up his information. All I see you ever do is argue with him, without foundation. He's helped a HELL of a lot more growers around here then harmed.... Leave your personal vendetta elsewhere....

3 pages and still no link?!? Lol no maybe it's wasn't written by uncle Ben but I remember seeing where he recommended this guide to someone else. And the method was advising against the paper towel method. Why does the grow culture have to make everything so complicated? everyone has to be different. can't just have one way.

In response to your point #1, the roots of plants grow downward due to Gravitropism, (the response of stratoliths in the growing root tips to gravity). They know up from down and don't need our help in figuring it out.

Your point #2 boils down to you can see what's going on, and assuring you "control". What are you going to see happen on the paper towel that you can jump in and fix?

i lay my seeds flat on wet rockwool and put them inside a propagator in a dark place most split in 2 days
i like to see how long the root is normally about 1cm before i poke them inside the rockwool with just the seed head sticking out
then put them straight under the light, i try to keep them stretching as much as possible some will go green straight away and stay stocky
no stretch at all, others will stretch and need support until they green up

its helpful to me when the seeds all germinate at the same time, its annoying when some come in 2 days
others take 5 or more days so i normally sprout twice as many as i need and kill off the weak ones that lack vigour in the first 2 weeks

peace

Hey I'm sure either no one will answer or I'll get bitched at, but i need to germinate these seeds and don't want to use the paper towel method, and uncle bens guide was very good, just can't fucking find it... Really should be a sticky...
how old are they and how healthy/mature do they look

i ran about 20 or so packs this year, i just sow em in inert, on their sides half shell, soil and water till cotyledoms and then feed light to normal as they grow

98% germination rate for the year

Okay guys I got it, I see the people who contributed info, thanks guys. I know it shouldn't be so hard but I know last time (my first go round) I ended up killing almost all of them... Pretty said really. I think I did everything wrong.

Sadly people don't know right from wrong. My back ground and experience allows me to see what harm is being done to gardeners and their gardens from some of his half truths and out right lies. Just because your happy with your grow does not mean its running at its potential. The gardeners I know EXPECT top numbers out of their gardens and that doesn't happen with his advise.

Actually AimAim I have seen many strains from many companies do exactly that, tap root coming to the surface and exposing itself. Hands on experience out ways books all day long. All these techniques work and there is no real wrong way to sprout. If one way works better then use it by all means...JAS

Thats how you learn Nod, I won the award on the "stupid' meter more than anyone when I first started. Killed my grows with overwatering, over nutes, all of the above until I got it right.

Less is more.
