Uncle Ben's re-potting method and miracle-gro

I'm an old fogy on my third grow and I have a question about a couple things.

1st question is about repotting:

I've been reading a lot of uncle ben's posts and I'm just curious about his repotting method. What's the difference between just regular repotting and letting the roots grow down and filling the pot like they normally would versus burying the trunk and triggering root growth off the buried stems. Is it just stability?

2nd question is about miracle gro:

I know everyone hates miracle gro but i've been growing veggies and plenty of other things with it for years and they've all loved it. http://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Gro-1001233-Purpose-Plant-Food/dp/B000P6QYJK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432853861&sr=8-1&keywords=miracle+gro

I'm finishing up a bottle of foliage pro 9-3-6 and I'm really thinking about trying the miracle gro. It's listed at 24-6-18 and it's very inexpensive. Am I asking for trouble?

You only bury the stem if your plant has stretched a lot due to poor lighting. I followed his method and it worked a treat.

You don't smoke your veggies. Think about it.

throw those veggies a way. miracle grow has toxic sludge as their base in soil and nutrients. They are the furthest thing from organic.. miracle grow is owned by Scotts and both are in partnership with Monsanto

go to this thread for cheap organic how to

Oh ok, Merlot that makes sense. Thanks.

Hyroot...I already ate the veggies, over the past couple decades. Haha. Thanks for the link too. I will take a look.

MP.......I'm thinking about it and true, I don't smoke the veggies but that still doesn't answer the question as to why it's not a viable nutrient for MJ. I was checking the label and the ingredients don't look dissimilar to many other nutrients. Is it a particular ingredient or something that kills MJ and makes it smoke harsh or something?

Anyone have any actual experience using the miracle gro?

I use MG for my first and second grow. Truth be told, the plants seemed to react fine to the feedings. I felt I pulled a decent yields (average 8oz out of 2gal pots). I found that the smoke was decent especially after a good cure.

Others may disagree but I can't say MG compromised my grow in any way.

I now use a peat / compost / bone meal mixture with little to no supplements and find I get similar yield and similar results in product.

Ok, that's basically what I figured. I think ill give it a go. The ingredients look the same as other lines. So a few votes for MG from folks with actual experience using it and a couple votes for it being toxic sludge but no actual facts as to why...just "because". I think I'll go with the former, thanks to everyone who replied.

It works just fine. Although you might want to dilute it down a bit. That's a whole lot of N. If your doing let's say the first feeding on a small plant then only throw a teaspoon in per gallon on water. That's 1/3 strength. A teaspoon and 1/2 would be half strength. I usually find half strength will push a plant through veg perfectly. If its an outdoor summer long veg then you can easily push it stronger than that. Just keep an eye on plant color and judge whether to feed it or not accordingly. Pick up some Calmag if you don't have any. It's lacking there. Swap over to the tomato formula after it finishes stretching. You'll end up with some fatty buds. You'll be surprised when you don't explode after smoking it. Or turn into a Ninja Turtle.

I enjoy equal parts perlite and the african violet soil mix. The "organic" lacks time released nute balls if that bugs you, has slightly lower ph lacking the lime of the av and less n. Av can burn seedlings, with my tap just over 7 the av becomes rather alkaline. I like to feed lightly every watering (after the soil calms down).. both of these soils are great and imo the best to use regarding soil qualities
I use bloom booster half tsp per gallon and molasses or epson depending what i feel suits the plants needs best. Molasses help the metals absorb in that alkaline soil while giving mag, k, and well lots of goods... 1/8tsp or 1/4 every other water seems to be preferred

Thats a real nice basic regimen that will produce dank consistently.. but you could do much more

just go to their website. They don't even hide the fact they use sewage as their base. They even claim its organics. Miracle gro is the worst thing you could ever use for growing. I will admit I've grown a couple plants with it back in the 90's. I would never use it again. Build your own soil.

peatmoss, pumice, worm castings, compost. What ever dry nutes you want to add. Reuse it over and over for years and years.

wouldn't want to use shit in your soil, lol. But really, YOU CAN use MG, BUT why would you?

Hey Hyroot, didn't your cat bring in spidermites that got in your miracle grow, so they got cancer and died and that's how you fixed your mite problem?

Miracle grow nutrients are just fine, the people who bash miracle grow do so out of the "popular opinion" not because there is actually something wrong with Miracle Grow.

If you are using MG soil, then you will run into problems with the time released nutrients mixed in the soil, but as far as the nutrient itself, it works just as good as any other nutrient on the market.

All nutrients work just fine if you use them properly.

I use a combination of Fox Farms and Ladybug nutrient products.

Some of the best plants I have ever seen (not just MJ) grew right next to a sewer outlet.

Why would you?
No good reason really

Can get ~$.30 indoors per gram after factoring in all yearly costs and any crap

Can set up a big ass container hooked up to a digital moisture reader that releases and halts at set parameters....and keep it from molding much longer than organic. Automating grow is easier

Its produced some of the best buds ive grown to date. But thats not my exact regimen at all.

Human waste once properly composted makes a viable fertilizer.
