Under-watering or over-watering?

Also, over watering should never be a problem as long your soil drains well and you have good ventilation in your space. Of course, when you give them a really good watering in between you want to make sure you've got all the water drained out - doing this over a tub and tipping the pots. I always put an inch or so of chunky perlite at the bottom of my pots to help with drainage.

You really don't need runoff when you give them nutes. You need runoff during regular watering in between! Some of the nutes need to be flushed through between feedings so you don't get a buildup. This will lead to lower ph in your soil, making it more acidic.
Vegamatrix is directed to be used with "every feeding"

Following up on the subject of moisture meters.

It is true not to rely on a moisture meter for your watering needs; when new to growing I can see no wrong in using any tool that can assist in making your job easier. In the course of time you will get more experience and will not need a meter but for now I see no harm in using one if your having doubts about your watering schedule despite about how more experienced growers feel about the use of meters.

I love to cook, when I first learned how to cook I bought measureing cups, spoons, kitchen scales now they sit in my cupboard gathering dust...I just "eyeball" my ingredients.

I'm a retired HVAC tech and when I was a helper I would lug my toolbox, guages, freon tank... After about a week my "teacher" (Mechanic) stopped me and said "Son, you only need 8 tools for 90% of the jobs you'll run into and 4 of those you were born with" Touch, sight, smell, hearing and 4 handtools ( reversable screwdriver, channellock pliers, flashlight and voltage meter) and damn if he wasn't right.

You use what makes life simpler and when you gain experience you let that meter go but for now, use it if it makes you feel more confident.
