Understanding CFM

So Ive tried searching through the forum here but couldnt find an answer.

is there a general rule of thumb when going with dimensions of a grow room to the amount of CFMs needed.


This is what I was looking at to get

112 CFM 220 VAC FAN

New, JARO model AA1282US-AT. Die cast housing, sleeve bearings. 48 db rating.

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Flow 112 CFM max.
  • Voltage 220 AC
  • Amperage 0.11
  • Speed 2700 RPM
  • Mount 4 hole 4-1/8" sq. pattern
  • Blade Dia. 4-3/4"
  • Number of Blades 5
  • Size 4-3/4" x 4-3/4" x 1-1/2"
  • Shpg. 2 lbs..

So my rating would be 6 CFM then?? :confused:

I think you meant that your room is 6 cubic feet. This is true.

Given the guideline of 3-5 air changes/minute you would need a fan rated at between 18 and 30 CFM. You have a 112 CFM. You're good to go.

Correct.
In reality, the gtrower needs to identify the number of minutes they want to exchange an entire rooms air.
A 10x5x8 room = 400 cubic feet.
If the grower wants to completely exchange the air in:
10 minutes = 40CFM
8 minutes = 50 CFM
5 minutes = 80 CFM
4 minutes = 100 CFM
2 minutes = 200 CFM
1 minute = 400 CFM
And yes, I do believe the guidelines/goal is in 3-5 minutes.

I'm new to this and this is my first post. This is something that I've been searching for all night. Some sites say 3 - 5 times a minute and others say once every 3 - 5 minutes. What I don't think anyone else caught in reading this link is that it says if you are only trying to replentish co2 levels, then once every 5 minutes is fine. If you are trying to cool your op as well, then you'll need to evac 3 to 5 times every minute. I have a little over 800 cubic feet of space and I need cooling...:???:. This is gonna get expensive! Anyone else have any experience on this? I'm going to post this same question in the noob section.
