I also just cut an old screen off a door and made it a few inches oversized and jammed in covering carbon. Leave a couple of inches or so around sides so it would fit over hood connector. Had to clean glass a few times do to carbon dust so it might be wise to shake out the dust in a strainer before using.

i got some pantyhose and used 2 of them. just the reducer the filter the pantyhose carbon and duct tape
Nice. Hope it lasts a long time. The pre-filter might be the trick to that though.

I have not had to replace carbon yet but I plan on replacing after this grow. So it will be 6 months. I dont have a prefilter around mine but is a good idea because its getting really dirty. But the shopvac filter is only 10 bucks at menards so its not to a big deal to just replace the whole thing. They also have hepa and other high grade filters for a little more cash.
That's great that yours has lasted so long. It took me forever to get around to the pre-filter thing, but when I did, I realized how important a role those $4 bucks could play. But thanks Krazy, I have a stray cat that comes around called Crazy. If you put your hand to your side he will jump and headbutt your hand just to get a free pet or good rub up.

Bump.. Does this work as well pulling the air thru the filter as it does pushing the air thru the filter? I'd like to put it inside the cab
For pulling air through, I'd either point the cone inwards towards the master flow collar itself or make a cylindrical filter with two 4" reducers(Capping one end off). Reverse Cone will require filling it with more carbon, but it will get the job done. Double reducer cylinder would be about an inch thick of activated carbon. Most likely enough for a cab. You might want to use some sort of loose fabric or cotton ball to place between the carbon in the lid to make sure the carbon is tightly compressed if you choose the reverse cone.

Edit: This thread is a sticky, but thanks for the bump anyways.

looks great and neat! i plan on building this haha =P all i wanna know is what the paper around the screen is for? and is it replaced with carbon sheets now?
