Unusual Light Schedule

I was advised by a very experienced and knowledged grower on these light schedules:

12 on, 5.5 off, 1 on, 5.5 off for veg.

drop 1/2 hr of light every 2 weeks for flower
13.5 on
13 on
12.5 on
12 on
11.5 on
11 on

This seemed a little unusual to me, but non-the-less I gave it a shot and my plants have been vegging under that for a few weeks now and seem to be doing just fine.

Has anyone else heard of this? he said the hour of light in between the 5.5's on veg is to keep it going into flower. Dropping 1/2 hr every 2 weeks on the flower is supposed to simulate natural light.

I drop the 1/2 hour durring flowering but that veg schedule is alittle crazy. Not saying it wouldn't work but what is the advantage? Might save some power but it will most likely take a bit longer to veg.

He said the Veg schedule gives the plants the most time in the dark without putting them into flower. I know that half the people on this site say that plants do most of their growing in the dark and the other half say they do most of it in the light. I have not a clue for I'm not a scientist.

I do this for parsley under protection to stop it flowering during the winter. One hour of light every 5.5 h so ya thare is something to it.
