Upgrade to Smart Pots?

I hear good things. Anyone noticed increase yields at all?
Going to be running 0.6x0.6x1.5 tent with 400w hps for flower and adequate ventilation.

Choice I have it tight squeeze 4x 5 gallon smart pots or 9x 2 gallon smart pots?

Will be perpetual and from clones. Will be kept to 2/3ft max I'm guessing.

Opinions welcome! Yes I know small space but I know can be done and think will make a good environment.

I dont know what u mean by .6 x.6 x1.5 thats not alot of room. Im using a 400watter for my closet. i got a 150hps for vegging in a simple cabinet bout 2x1x4. its alil warm sometimes.

I wont knock smart pots, ran them to test them out.
Here is what I have found. Dirt will dry out quicker, plants will not become root bound. Yield didnt not increase or decrease (was a 1 gram difference, calling it plant structure differences).
This was with 1 month veg, topped and LST'd.

I say try some out, test them yourself. You might get different results. Run half smart pots, half Grow bags. Let us know how it works out!

they are good pots, i recommend them. make sure you use a really static soil, and by that i mean it doesn't change shape too much between wet and dry

that will make the pots more enjoyable to use

while aeration is not an issue with these pots it still pays to put some river stones at the base of your soil to improve drainage

So 4x 5 gallon or 9 x 2gallom? What would you do? What would offer best yield?
I know it's based on light etc but I thinking may get more with more plants.

I mean if there was no yield increase or other great effects I'll stick with plastic pots. But still question stands. 9 smaller or 4 bigger?

depends on your veg time. i have ran up to 2 month veg in a 2 gal pot, with no issues, that plant actually hold my highest yield to date.

Thanks for input. Thinking around 5/6week veg from small clone in root riot cubes. Just starting to nail cloning thank god! Wanna get harvesting perpetual style

if thats the case, the 2 gal should work fine, but i still say try them out. run 2-3 smart pots, and buy some bags, like $.25/ea and run them side by side.

Yeah I just heard a lot about them and thought was meant to be great. I think be a arseache watering daily! May just get the 2 gal pots. Approx 7l here in UK.

I love smart pots. I tried to use grow bags when I was a little short on money and I went right back to the fabric pots after one grow with the plastic bags. The Root Pots by Aurora are about half the price of smart pots and they seem to work just as well so I've been buying them instead lately.

I really don't think you can fit four 5-gallon pots or nine 2-gallong pots in that tent. You can comfortably fit four 2-gallon smart pots w/saucers in there. the DS or DR60 are 23.75 inches x 23.75 inches. the five gallon smart pots are 12 inches wide and the 2-gallon pots are eight inches wide. If you go with the numbers you want to use then you'll end up a little short on space in the tent and that's if you don't use saucers. If you use saucers then it's pretty much impossible.

Yeah I mean it's real real tight but I think cn be done. And tbh I can't get 5gallon normal plastic pots. Would be 9x 6.5 litre pots.
I don't use saucers I water in the bath.
Yeah not sure to try smart pots or not. Do you have to water them so often?

they don't have to be watered every day. Depending on how heavy I water I've been able to go up to four days or more without watering flowering plants.

I threw some plants in 2-gallon fabric pots in my empty DR60 to show you the space in there with pots.

these are 2 gallon fabric pots in a DR60 (aurora root pots and smart pots are the same width)

In the last pic I tried to go three across with the two gallon pots without saucers but there's not enough room.

I mean 2 gallon is 7.8 litre. I could fit 3x 6.5 litre I think but shall be checking first. For now will stick to my 11l pots 4 at a time.
2 every 4/5 weeks depending on strain. I already have few these 11l pots!

I noticed that when I increased the size of the smart pot from 2g to 3g, the plants grew a lot bigger (hence put out more product), but I make no claim that it was due to anything other than growing in a larger container. I went back to the 2g as I also use a tent and am limited on height of the plants.


In the hydro store, there is an advertisement: "Smart Pots.....NOT made in China!" How awesome is that??
