Help Please! 35 days from flip. At lights on my 600w HPS light ( about 4 months old) burned a bit and went out. I replaced the bulb but nothing. Touched the cord and it came on for a few minutes and went back out. I was thinking short because it will pop on intermittently and go back out a min later. If I unplug the ballast, wait a few mins and turn back on it lights right up but then shuts off again after a few mins. Is this a sign of a bad ballast??? arghhhhh

Bad bulb. Once it gets hot, the bulb will go out if it is bad. If it was the ballast, the light would not go on at all.

I switched the bulb with a 400w HPS and it also would not power on at all either. Would this be and adequate test or does it have to be a 600w bulb in the 600w ballast? Thanks. The ballast exhaust fan is running!!! add note: I also noticed now When the 600w is on intermittently the light looks white now instead of yellow???

probably because your not suppose to put 400w bulbs into a 600w setup. you can get a new cord and ceramic mogul or whatever if you need if you think its a short.

Electricity is nothng to fuck with. Get a new ballast. That's what I would have done but I see where a new bulb did the trick so kindly disregard my advcice.Shouldn't be posting when I'm baked. I don't always get the details right.

Yes!!! learned a valuable lesson today to get & keep spare parts. Thanks Bros
Hold off on buying a spare ballast, as they rarely go bad and by the time you get the ballast, your fucked already. I would buy a new one on Amazon and have it delivered by 2 day priority. Having a spare bulb is a good idea though, as bulbs never go to waste. I always change mine every 10 months of continual use. Peace

it's nice to buy your ballasts, and bulbs at your local Grow Store.
If you have a problem you can bring it back quick for an exchange.
