US Billboards - Marijuana Legalization

Also, I think we should start calling it "cannabis" instead of "marijuana" in the states. Currently "Marijuana" has a negative stigma to it, and we need to change this image. We can't take back the word marijuana. We need to use another word that people can identify with weed, without having a negative connotation attached to it. Cannabis fits this bill I think.

For real. People need to ask themselves, "How does cannabis prohibition differ from alcohol prohibition?"

"Should the government tell me how my garden grows?"

I also think that we need to promote the healthier ways of using cannabis: cooking and vaporizing.

Like a cancer research style commercial. We need to tug on heartstrings. We need to have puppy dogs and all that crap.

You know those "truth" ads? We should start our own "truth" campaign.

Some of this misinformation is just getting silly and I am getting fed up with it. I intend in the near future to begin coming up with my own ads and animations. We'll see...
I agree with everythig you just said 100%:peace:

E-passes... I'm so desperate, I'mma take me an e-hit right cha he-ah!

Back to the topic at hand, though. I'm not kidding about the importance of the lobby. That would be SO much more effective than putting up billboards, and it would reach the right people (the ones who actually make the laws on a state and federal level). It's expensive, but it works. Just look at the fucking digital television signal conversion fiasco for a primer on the effectiveness of the lobby. Or, if you really wanna get pissed off about something, search AARP lobby. FUCK if that doesn't chap my hide!

I SO totally agree with you on this one. It's a shame that the best lobbyists are those that work for major corporations. And the only ones that have that kind of money don't want to invest in the drug war. It's a sore spot they can't afford to blemish their record.

Which is why I mention that we need to focus on the healthier aspects of cannabis. There are ways to use THC that don't involve a significantly heightened risk of cancer. That's something that people could get behind.

Perhaps if we had the tools in our hands and the right social networks at our fingertips... hell I imagine that if we all worked together to pull some strings we could pull something off... Lord knows we have friends in low places, I'm certain more than a few of us have friends in high places, as well.

If everyone who is a patient would to donate $1, there would be enough money to fund so many adds and lobbyists and whatever else. 1 million people got arrested for smoking marijuana, I reckon theres like 20 million people that would be interested in the legalization of cannabis(?).

Get a picture of a cop eating a donut, and then the caption says, "Someone's got the munchies!.... 11 million americans smoke, at least one of those millions is a cop. Legalize it" hah

OK. I have an idea, imagine that an old fart with an idea. I got it when I was a speech given by Ethan Nedelmann, the founder and executive director of Drug Policy Alliance. It seems like he believes all of the Norml people feel betrayed by all of their middle class friend. They used to smoke and maybe still do the just won't tell any body, They keep it in the closet. And then there was this ad campaign, you might remember, whats in your wallet. So we mix the two.

:joint:Whats In Your Closet??:blsmoke:

Maybe a picture of a Marijuana leaf, a college party scene smoking up etc.
I posted how we cold get it legalized in a thread on this forum over a year ago. Here is a link to it if you would like to see how I think it can be done.

so you would only get 11 million bucks, thats really not that much
11 millions dollars could open up 137 cannabis dispensaries, if each one cost $80,000
11 million dollars could hire 8461 lobbyists for a month, or 705 for a year
11 million dollars could put out 4782 billboards for a month, or 398 for a year

11 million bucks is a lot man, especially when it only cost you $1

imagine if you were a legistrator being bugged by 705 lobbyists all year
11 million bucks could legalize pot ;)

Thank ye. She got extra fixed up after I was rear-ended last September by a kid in a truck. Why go stock if aftermarket costs the same, right?

Noice. :D I'm not PhotoShop skilled, either. I have a copy a friend burned, but no God damned key.

Wait a minute, you grew that thing? It's REAL??
Real as the all outdoors & still growing, ive nicknamed it "The Moose".

This is the plant.

How many lobbyist would it take to make a difference, Seamaiden?
That question I cannot answer. I only know these numbers from a job working for a business that is supported (subsidized) by taxpayer dollars. To give more information here would actually be violating an agreement I made with them. However, they are a strong lobby (got the FCC to pass that digital tv conversion bullshit). You might want to actually contact the folks at NORML, as they're already organized and may already have lobbyists on staff.
(And that blows about your kids, a total bummer. I wasn't high functioning until I tried cannabis. I was mostly the quiet kid that never talked to anyone.)
For the oldest one, yes, he suffers from both disorders as yourself, and it does pain me to see how he is self-destructive, the choices in friends he makes, and when he's down. The younger one, though, he's the sweetest, kindest, and most generous person I have ever known, and I'm amazed that I've had the honor of being his mother.
1500/month is not a lot. I could sell my car (which I hate and never drive) and hire 20 for a month, to put it into perspective.
Again, that's incredibly generous of you (and somewhat anathema to the "standard" autistic mindset).

Or maybe high friends in low places. Sorry.. you've pretty much hit a few nails upon their headses.

The thing here is that, in my opinion, it is the (corporate) lobby that has really corrupted our current political system and structure. But, can we beat 'em? I don't know, so I say let's do as the Japanese did, play the game but play it better.
