Using a plain mirror as a reflector?

This could work, couldn't it? I mean, that is what a mirror does is reflect images and lighting.

The experienced folks say mirrors are a poor choice. The thick glass absorbs too much light. Why not use some white paint or mylar or Panda film? I mean we KNOW what works.

Im changing all my mylar out for panda. My room is half and half and the panda side seems brighter than the mylar.

I dont think it works as well because the light has to pass through the glass then back through it again after its reflected. I think they create hot spots too, just what ive read.

I finished up my box and had to sacrifice a reflector I made myself because, believe it or not, I couldn't get it to hang properly because of the weight distribution on one side, so I went ahead and caulked a surge protector on the roof and plugged in socket-plugins with dual-sockets attached with CFLs. So I am lacking a light reflector, I have wall reflectancies (Emergency blankets). I wanna put together a reflector DYI style, so I thought maybe mirrors would suffice but you guys threw down some knowledgeable advice. I'll see if I can get ahold of some sheet metal from Lowes or something. Don't want hot spots with mirrors.

DIY ... use the backside of wrapping paper...
I already got fabric for wall reflectors, I was thinking more along the lines of throwing some 'wings' on my CFL strip I have going for additional downward reflectance. I was just wondering if a mirror would work, which is said it doesn't, and wrapping paper doesn't really fit this particular scenario.
