Veg AND Flower on T5H.O.?

Hey everyone, first post on RIU for me! Here's my situation... I'm doing a closet grow with 2 sativas right now (first grow) and I purchased a dimmable 600w light. Pretty simple setup - reflective boards, nutes and soil (3g). My problem is that the 600w system seems a bit much for me. I can't keep the heat down, even after installing venting and additional fans. As well as dimming the lights. I got home yesterday and it was still 99 degrees in the room. Not to mention the power consumption I'm dealing with. So I've decided to back down a little and go with fluoros. I know you can veg with T5s but I was wondering about their flowering efficiency. I'm doing this as a hobby and not looking to make money so I don't need centerfold buds, though I don't want to waste my time either. Thoughts? I appreciate the input!

had the exact same problem mate so i switched from my 600w hps to a hydromaster 600w l.e.d light and the temp stay's the same even after a good few hour's of the light being on, that might be a better option for u aswell

I am currently on day 57 of flower with a 2x2 8 bulb 194 watt t5 HO in a 2x2 tent. Temp in the tent stays around 72 during lights on. I used 6500k for veg for around 2 weeks then changed 4 bulbs to 3000k when I switched to 12/12. I used some bagseed my buddy gave me. IMO I like the t5. I think Im having a good grow for what I have. Heres a pic of my main cola.

Thanks guys, the unit I got I believe is a Hydrofarm. I wanted a switchable ballast but the guy told me it would burn the plants in such a small place. I really wanted the led but I didnt want to spend alot on equipment until I knew I was able to grow. Hopefully everything goes good for ya!

86hemphill have you tried cooltubes? with an inline fan? I dont wanna start purse swinging over hps/led but your question is a good one. If you insist on keeping and using t-5 ho's you can very easily use them for flowering. Just switch half of them to 2000 k temp bulbs. blue are 6000k i believe, t-5's still have heat they give off tho. Just be ready for a bit longer growing time using t-5's but they'll produce GREAT cannabis, actually t-5's will grow just about anything!

Just so you realize im not a troll. i still use cfl's and t-5's but i FUCKEN LOVE 600HPS KOOLTUBES BABY! I would also suggest buying a 3 x 3 x7 tent for your grow area if you can afford one.

Second pic was both t-5's 6000k and a hps kooltube 600 magnetic ballast, havent looked back since. Eitherway man enjoy your grow.

@VTMi'kmaq, I think I'll take your advice on the T5s. Just ordered an EnviroGro 2ft 4-bulb fixture. Comes with 4- 6200k bulbs. And then I'm going to get some 2000ks. Nice setup btw!

Thanks for posting, I'm currently using T5's and I'm hoping I made the right decision. Whats up with the pussy ?

pussy hangs out in my light rooms because two of my pussies have had there skin/coat conditions "cured" by t-5 and hps 600 eye hortilux bulbs, told my vet they were awestruck, Dont know how but it works. I also allow them to chew any leaves they feel they need. Ususally my plants are large enough that this never hurts them. Ive been blessed with "take only what we need kitties"! Like i said i'll help anyone that i can. Feel free to ask me your questions about these things because i TRULY enjoy watching other farmers flourish.
