Considering this for a small scale closet personal grow: vegging 4 plants in DWC for about 3-4 weeks from seed. Then transplant to FFOF with 25-50% perlite in 7 gallon felt grow bag, burying the 3" net pot rocks and all. Give a week or two to acclimate then switch over to 12/12 (and maybe introduce mild FF nutes at 1/4 to 1/2 strength at week 4 ish of their nute schedule). Anyone ever tried veg hydro flower soil? Any thoughts as to why this would be a good or bad idea? Any suggestions? My theory is that although there will be some stress with a transplant, roots will be less disturbed if I bury the net and there would be some gains on the veg end from the speed of hydro and gains on the soil end with taste. thanks for any help!

Due to security concerns I have to keep my plants to a minimum number and smaller. I veg in coco with nutrients in regular pots with surgical hair nets to keep it from spilling out the bottom. When the plants are 12-15 inches high or when roots start to grow out the bottom I transplant them to an outside garden or potted soil for indoor growing in winter. The nets can be peeled off because the coco is held in place by roots or you can just put nets in with the plant. There is little transplant shock if watered well at the start. Putting the plants in at 15 inches gives me 4-5 foot plant at harvest with good production. It may take a little longer to flower but the taste offsets the wait. Living on the Gulf Coast I can start plants outdoors in March but don't because a cool, wet spring will produce a lot of brown mold in the buds. I wait till a dryer weather trend which usually starts in early May. Great soil is key. I get it ready in the fall with premium bulk soil from a landscaper outlet instead of bags from a store then add compost, bone/blood meal, rhizobia ect. and let it set for the winter with only vetch growing in it to fix nitrogen. I have good luck with kush strains. One more tip: those recycle bags from the grocer work great as pots and are cheaper than grow bags.

I have been cloning and vegging in DWC for a year. I pot them into the soil net pot and all but I remove the rocks and replace them with my soil. I also sprinkle soil over the roots as I lower it into the pot. Works pretty well in my opinion and I haven't lost a plant yet.
