When you soak tomato and jalepeno seeds, about how long do they take to sprout above soil?

I so impatient. It has only been two days...

I hope they don't take longer than weed to germ.

placed several tomato seeds in germination last friday, 2-22. today nothing, so i scraped and removed some soil, found them emerging out of seeds, i know i planted to deep, so placed a tiny bit back, 1/2 inch was to deep, seeds were so tiny, next batch will be at most 1/4 inch. but anyway they're saved, so give'em about 5 days. also in baker creek seed catalog, explains how to save tomato seeds, you actually let seeds ferment in a jar, 3 days, then rinse the whiteshit off and dry with a light breeze.

best thing to do at least what everyone at ______ are doing now including me, is to fill 32 cell flats with mix then compress down lightly set a seed or 2 in each cell and cover with coarse vermiculite. it creates a sterile barier between the soil and the seedling. We never soak seeds. I have 750 plants to go in this year should be sprouted within 7 days like hendrix said.


we just set a flat on top of a filled flat and give em a firm push down over each cell after filling them and it puts about a 1/4" depression for the seed to sit in

I just place them into a DWC system in rockwool or w/e and let them sprout then let them grow in it. In my AeroGarden I have had a 100% germination rate. Their Tomato seed kit can take up to 2 weeks to germinate

I was thinking about starting some strawberry/rasberry plants, but I gotta wait until it's warm enough in the florida room.

Day 3 on these seeds.

I soaked all the seeds for about 4-5 hours. all the tomato seeds sunk. So I am hoping that was long enough.

tomatoes and peppers can take anywhere from a week to a month, depending on how warm you can keep the medium.

You should see sprouts anyday now on the tomatos. What temp is the room? Also peppers are a little slower on growth and will generally take a bot longer to sprout.

I can see the stem of one tomato plant pushing through the soil, and Two pepper plants have shown their heads.

Well yeah but more flowers means more pollenations means more peppers. I dont know i was told years ago that by planting them in twos they will pollinate more and also help to hold each other up thus elliminating the number of stakes you will have to buy. So its how ive always done it and i usually have more peppers than i can use. Not at all saying that thwy wont produce you plenty of peppers planted alone. Sorry for the confusion.

Also peppers are self pollinating so most pollination is done by the wind. Which i believe is probably qhere this theory originates. More flowers closer together.

peppers are strange. i've had it happen where i'd give up hope, do a second planting, and have both batches come up at the same time.

I still find it amazing that a tiny seed lays dormant packed with DNA telling it what it will be. The seed is just waiting to be brought to life then turns around and provides/rewards us with abundant bountiful harvest.

Just seeing when a seed first sprouts is so kool.

Such an Amazing and Beautiful Thing !

DNA in general is amazing.

Think about that tiny seedling root. It's DNA is telling the root tip to multiply multiply multiply!
