Veggin under CFLs....how long until HPS

I currently have 2 starters under (1) 55w 2700k CFL and (6) 27w 5500k CFLs and i was curious how long until i should move them under my 250HPS. Also, there shouldnt be any issues utlizing all the CFLs along with the HPS during late veggin/flowering correct?

thanks in advance

The length of your veg depends on how big you want your plants to be when they are finished. You can expect the plants to triple in size through the flowering period (if you veg for about a month or a month and a half). If you veg for longer than 2 months it won't quite triple in size but it will be close, you will get diminishing returns after that. If this is your first grow and you want some quick bud just veg it for like 2-3 weeks and then go to HPS.
You won't have any problems using your CFLs during flower but if your just starting you might want to use them to germinate and veg the next cycle so you can have a couple of months veg time for the next go round.
Hope this helps

Personally I grow with all my lights for entire growth. I've heard some interesting claims but I've never had a problem. Just be sure they aren't too close and sometimes when I move them under the HPS ( On the occasions they weren't already ) they stunt growth a few days ( Possibly some shock from much more intense light ). You can move them under whenever you wish. Although veg is predominately blue spectrum my HPS does seem to help veg growth as well.

There is no problems utilizing the CFLS with the HPS. Just watch the heat :-)

Happy Growing!

thanks guys! my space is about 6Hx2Dx3W. I was always concerned about stretching....especially when they are so small. I was thinking of getting them a couple sets of leaves under the CFLs then introduce them to the HPS, utilizing the same CFLs for vegging. Its been a couple years since my last grow and i never used CFLs in that one. When i switch to flowering, i will swap out my 5500k CFLs for some more 2700ks as well as keep the CFLs on the lower parts to get the spots the HPS doesnt penetrate.

Should have around 250W of HPS and roughly 217 true watts of CFLs, which im hoping should be enough

I used cfl for cloning. once they develope some roots I used to take immediately and put under a 1khps. Never had a problem.

my only concern with the HPS is the stretching and heat as the hood is not aircooled. i do have fan circulating air and will have a small computer fan pulling hot air out from the top, but im worried i cannot get em close enough to prevent stretching

You may want to look into a more powerful fan. Like a 4" inline duct fan for about $50 with everything to wire it and hangers and ducting and tape.

usually takes 30-45 days for a mature seed to be ready for flower.. although there would be one persone who would debate me until my face was blue.. he goes seed to flower... howver generally 45 days is the usual for mature seeds.. if you have cuttins.. 1-3 weeks is fine. 2-3 atleast.. just trial and error man try now and see what you think, experiment, experiment, experiment! my understanding youll love your 250.. just watch your power and make sure its grounded! id use the cfl for the first few weeks then grab your hps for a boost! this site is awesome but there is alot to learn by asking google, (but im not being a smarta** :) honestly,, im not!!! just trust me! find the cannabis growers bible its got useful stuff in it too!

thanks guys! The HPS light is plugged into a heavy duty power strip, which is plugged into a heavy duty extenstion cord (the big orange ones) so i think i should be good on that aspect. temps seem to be hovering right about 72-78 degrees throughout the day, but if they rise significantly, i will add another fan up top.

Anyone have any suggestions as far as Nutes go? the local hydro store has a ton of different options, and its been a while since ive dabbled in any of them.

I like general hydro micro and bloom in lucas formula. Which is micro then double for bloom. I also use Cal/mag+ from botanicare, silica blast and powder kool bloom. When you mix those with reverse osmosis water you will never have to ph. EVER. Can add sea green and orca and it won't change ph. I use 6ml micro, 12 bloom, 4 silica and cal/mag+. .2 tsp kool bloom. That is all per gallon. With the microbes that will give ph 5.8 ppm 1100 when ro water is used. Can cug dosage in half for starting out veging or even more if in soil. I use hydro.

It's fine lotus. The amperage is no where near enough to burn up the cord. I was an electrician for 5 years and avionics tech for 6 ( in research now ). Anyways if you don't have access to a plethora of nutes ( I have very limited access due to location ) I have been using high N macro notes ( serious has no real labeling but have tested it to be sure ). I also made a solution of micro nutes sometimes but usually just supplement my nutes with urine. I change the Res often. Haven't had a problem with nutes in years. Good luck!

Every power cord and outlet extention has a power rating. Just stay under that. Normal ones are about 1750 watts so heavy duty should be able to run 2.
