Ventilation Help Required Please

My carbon filter is a 6" duct rated at 470cfm scrubbing and my fan is Ostberg CK6C inline fan 6" duct at 487 cfm. I have them hanging in the air right next to each other only separated by 3 inches of duct. My intake is passive (door frame) and Air is being pulled through the filter-fan-hood- and out my attic hatch in the room then out through the roof.

I'm trying to go for single pass filtering with my exhaust. I've read that for single pass filtering to be effective the fans cfm is usually divided by two but not too sure.

So my question is if I keep the setup I have now will it render the carbon filter from not working as a single pass exhaust and just push all the air outside, smell and all?
Or will I be fine? Also I was wondering if A fan speed controller would solve my problem.

I've tried researching this on my own and came up with mixed feelings about this issue. I'm A week from 12/12 on my first indoor grow and need to put this to rest.

Thank you for your time.

I would install the fan in the attic and let it pull the air through the carbon filter, then the light, then some ductwork until it reaches the fan.

Air is being pulled through the filter-fan-hood- and out my attic hatch in the room then out through the roof (I am under the impression that your fan is between the light hood and carbon filter.)

The way you got it set up now you are pressurizing the light hood which is not air tight and you are actually pushing the heat back into your grow room. What is the cubic feet of your grow space?

The most commonly overlooked tool in this type of setup (open-loop) is the fan's speed controller. A good controller can keep everything cool when it NEEDS to be kept cool... without having to run at warp speed all the freakin time. It's worth the extra money to get this right the first time.
