Venting outside a bad idea?

I am in the planing stage of putting togather my first grow set up. It's going to consist of a 3x3 or 4x4 tent, with my ventilation set up like this, 6x24" Phat Filter-> 6" inline fan-> Xtrasun air cooled with a 600w HPS-> venting out of the tent. My original plan was to have that air go right outside (outdoors) and just have the tent intake passively. The thing is I live in a house in the city and only have maybe 20' to where my neighbors could be. How bad would this smell after going through the carbon filter? would adding a tub of Ona make much difference? My other alternative to is have the tent exhaust inside into the room, or possibly even into another room. The room the tent is in is only 8x11x8, could I just exhaust into that room or would that not be enough fresh air? I could leave the door of the room open some of the time but not always.

I am legal so I'm not to concerned if it smells a LITTLE bit directly outside my house, but I don't want it to smell heavily in my neighbors yards. I don't want to draw to much attention for obvious reasons.

with a good carbon filter, you should be fine.if you are really worried,go ahead & vent into another room. venting into the same room w/ a 600 watt light will lead to overheating

Or you could vent through your roof. If theres an attic hatch in the room it would be ideal. Just run a duct up through the hatch and directly to a roof vent. Just be sure to keep the duct as straight as possible so you don't reduce airflow too much. When you vent that high the odor dissipates long before anyone can smell it (at least from a 4X4 room).

I realize venting to the roof would be ideal, but there are a couple things that make that pretty difficult in my case. First of all the house I live in is broken into two separate apartments and I am on the lower level. My upstairs neighbors are pretty cool, but I don't want to subject them to too much odor. The other thing is that I rent and I am trying to be as least invasive as possible to keep my landlord off my back. The less holes I cut the better. If I vent outside I would go right out a window in the grow room. the vent would come out about 10' off the ground outside so it would be higher than head level.

Dude I'd just have an air intake from the outside then vent into the same room if usind a tent/growbox. That's how my last setup was and how the new bigger 1 will be, that way your plants get nice fresh air from outside and all the stank stays indoors, no need for a filter! I'm a legal patient n everyone thinks the little bit of smell is from me smoking

I do not recommend this idea as you would then also have to cool the room that you are dumping all your air into. Which would cost even more money.

However if you could vent into another room of your apartment then this would help to keep temps stable. I would then intake air from the room the tent is located in as ambient house air generally has a higher ppm of Co2 than outdoor air.

You could then have your filter hanging inside your tent ducted to the outside of your tent where you could then have it attached to your fan and duct your fan out of the room into another room of your place. Have your lower tent flaps open for passive intakes which will draw in air from the room.

This is exactly the same my set up almost, My tent is 2x4x5 and is in a room that is 8x10, I have my Carbon filter hanging in my tent hooked to a inline fan then going through my cool tube (running 400 watt) then ducted out of the tent and Venting into the room next door, I just draw passive air from the room my tent is in and my temps dont get any hotter than 82 even at 24 hrs light.

U must live in a hot area, I'm in so Cal and the air coming into my box from the outside is always 78, don't no if its just the way I have my setup but it works perfectly, no cooling or heating required, I only use 1 6 inch fan for the whole setup too, the box is 3x4x3 and the way my air flows around the inside is choice too, just sum simple engineering of airflow and you'll be good,

I live in northern Alaska and in the Summer time I vent outside but I have a in-line ozone generator that ozones the hell out of the 6" blowers output.. In the winter I use 2 big ass can50 filters and a small indoor ozone gen and keep it in the house, works well for most strains but I would not try it with ak-47 or white widow I do them in the summer..

Besides that most people using mh or hps bulbs tend to have to cool their room in some form or another anyway, wheather its an actually grow room cooler or using their house air conditioning, so I pretty much fail to see your point...

you have clearly never had a properly ventilated room.
Carbon filter as high in room as possible>--->Air cooled hood(s)>--->Vortex Powerfan>----->outside
passive intake=negative pressure in room.
negative pressure in room=no smell leaks.
and best of all, no AC.

On the contrary, u all over complicate ventalation.... kiss method, keep it simple stupid, now how do u get me not having a properly vented room from what I said, most people do have to cool their room in some form or another, even if your only cooling your light assembly you are in turn cooling your room cooling is nothing more than keeping heat out or expelling the heat in some form, if your cooling your heat source your cooling the room... and as for fresh air vent I'm able to use one 6 inch fan not only to blow air into my cab but with a lil engineering (simple) I've created a vortex like airflow replacing the air in my cab every 20 seconds, also creates a soft breeze over all plants equally with no wind burn , my temp is a constant 78, don't knock it till you no wats goin on homie

i guess by "grow room cooler" you meant "fan"?
what do you do about smell with all that positive pressure?

The whole point in this thread is to not stink up the outside of the house, the inside can be stunk up, my room that I grow reeks of of bud, but it doesn't outside, and the point is to keep neighbors from smelling, and when I mean grow room cooler I litterally mean a mini air-conditioning unit made for grow rooms, they sell them all over in our hydro shops here in so Cal, so no I don't mean a fan, but yes a fan would be considered a mini conditioning unit, air flowing over hot surface taking away the heat, that's how AC units work,
