Vertical Reflector?

Any thoughts on the science behind the effectiveness of a vertical light/reflector? Specifically I'm looking at the OG Vertical Reflector by GrowLite. I've read a few negatives regarding it's spread and the vertical height it needs for clearance. Luckily I only need a light spread of 3' x 3' and I have 8' of vertical clearance. Plus I'm either going SOG or SCROG.

Anyway, I've been more focused on LEDs, so I'm a little behind on learning about reflectors, but this vertical presentation of the light and the reflector design did intrigue me, but I don't want to buy something because it looks cool and shiny unless it's actually functional too.

The best way to do vertical is just hang a bare bulb in the socket. If you need air cooled a good ole cool tube hung vertical is a good option.

I'm getting one tomorrow. Gonna start a thread on it, since I couldn't find many. Probably with a 600(Got a select a watt ballast) at about 7 feet with a 3 foot tall, slightly stretchy, GPK who I will immediately start flowering. Kinda curious about how much she will stretch, but if need be I'll LST her ass sideways lol

Just picked it up:-)))

Hood, ballast(4-6-1-OD), CanFan, carbon filter(new),muffler(new) 500$. I'm happy with it :-)

I set it up just long enough to see the light footprint and I'm not sure i see why I would have to hang 7 feet high. Albeit I have a 400 watt hps in it.

However I do see how it reflects the light down.

Ended up just going ahead and a attaching my hooks to the wall so I could hang it. I don't see a visible square of light either, and I tried moving the plants around to see if I could find one.

I will say I think this produces a brighter footprint than either of the 600's (with easy cool 6 and cooltube/batwing) I've used in the past.

I absolutely love the idea of reflective material being OVER both vents. That's easy to understand :-) more reflective surface= more light reflected.

I think they look so cool from the top like that. Watched something before about nature and art/geometry, they remind me of that.

These have been grown with FFoF, purified water and nothing else.

Hoping to get some nutes for flowering but there is still other stuff I need first and cash is limited.

Couple things.

At current hight, there is defiantly some Shade spots it puts out. Most noticeably directly in the centsr(under the bulb). As well as some 'hot' spots along the outer perimeter of the light.

Also, It appears to be too much for the 2 smaller plants, as the tops are wilting inward. Of course it could be an unrelated problem.

With the 400 I have in it, no air cooking is required although I do have a table fan pointed at the hood, oscillating.
